So... Tomorrow night starts the new Dual Survival...

What would be really great is if they would focus on a particular skill more in depth on each show. Like a desert one where procuring safe water is the focus, or focusing on a couple trap designs, or shelters, or fire. They could still keep it entertaining for the masses but also teach us a thing or two.

I agree, but I suspect they never will unless they put together one of those episode montages remembering past scenes from episodes. If you sort of consider how episodes are arranged, the title and headline focuses on the location. Obviously, a tonne of logistical effort is placed on finding places that offer stunning landscapes that convey some kind of survival hardship. Really this how the producer fellows chose their episode. I think the skills thing is almost improvised along the way by the contributing experts except for the odd turkey that somebody tethered to a log :D

I like this show. I thought it was an interesting angle to have two guys with different philosophies and skill sets paired up in a survival situation. While some of the stuff can be silly and meant purely for the entertainment of the masses who generally don't care about survival preparedness, much of it is useful and entertaining.

For straight up practical survival skills I like watching Ray Mears video's on Youtube. However, in this day and age of CGI, violent video games, and high paced action flicks, Ray's show wouldn't do well for prime time ratings. It requires an attention span longer than ten seconds, which is often too much to ask from the ADHD masses. Watch some of these reality shows and notice how the camera never stays put for longer than a few seconds. They are constantly cutting, moving, zooming in and out, panning, etc. This goes for all reality shows. Producers must think they have to constantly stimulate the audiences senses by changing the shot every 5 seconds. Some shows I just can't watch because they never keep the camera in one place long enough to appreciate what you're looking at. Overhauled and some of these home sales/improvement shows do that crap all the time, I gave up watching them.

TT -tethered turkey, say it isnt so! That bird got his foot stuck in some brush-nudge,nudge. wink, wink.

I'm pretty sure you couldn't get a show about what camping is really like on air today.

Sure you could; I'm, sure everyone would tune into my show...

"Are the sausages done yet?"
"Nah, needs another 10 minutes."
"Fire's nice, eh?"
"Yep."
"Still got water left?"
"Yep."
"Think the traps will catch anything?"
"Nope."
"Good thing we have more sausages then, I guess."
"Yep."

Riveting!!!:D

So what did everyone think of last nights show? Cody actually dug out his socks for this one. That looked like some brutal territory. Liked the snow shelter he came up with. I would never want to be caught out in those conditions. Not a fan of zero degrees.

I liked the snow shoes Dave made, Cody's snow shelter was great too and his fire starting in those conditions were on it!

I hear you. Splitting one of 2 matches and getting a fire first time was pretty awesome. Smart move with the wool and chapstick. When I saw him pull it out at the first of the show I figured it would play a part in the fire making later. Cool trick.

I wonder if they actually slept in that snow shelter. They didn't show any footage. It looked pretty claustrophobic in there. I had nightmares about it last night. I think I would sleep with my head facing the entrance.

Everything is so much harder working though a deep snow base. Last winter it took us hours just to snow shoe a few miles. Even with an extra person it was very hard to collect fire wood and water. Dave and Cody must have been beat up good in that snow. The paracord thing looked risky though.

I also caught the new Scout version of the BHK knife, pretty cool. .

I'm pretty sure he was using the Scout. Looks flat ground with a wood handle.

I really liked the look of that knife! What is it? I can't find any info on it, and I don't know what "BHK" is.

Is it a one of a kind custom, or something that I might be able to get my hands on?

BHK = Blind Horse Knives.

You should be able to get one. I am not sure if they are on sale yet or not, but they will be if they aren't.

I liked it last night, loved when Cody flipped the bird to the tree after the snow fell on his fire. :D

I liked it. I have only camped a couple of times in the snow, thatsca whole different world for me. But I love the scenery.

I wonder what people here would say if Bear Grylls went out in the snow in shorts and no shoes?

I think it's just ridiculous that he's got shorts on and no boots on in the snow.

I liked that we got to see an axe. Nice placement of the hockey tape to cover the name on the axe to avoid some "product placement.":D Looked like maybe a Wetterlings. Was that Dave's only 'tool'? Didn't see him use a knife anywhere, but I could have missed it.

Loved the part with Cody and the fire. I can see why Dave defers to him in firemaking. The guy is good!

When Dave and Cody got to the cliff and they were wondering if they could get down on the other side, they should have just yelled to the camera man who was on the other side getting the "shot" and asked him. :D

Didn't see any previews for next week, anyone know where Dave and Cody will be going?

Yeah, since the premise was "stranded skiers", it was unrealistic for Cody to be out there like that, since I highly doubt and real skier would.

The axe was cool, but that also kinda didn't fit with the skier concept, who's skis with an axe??? Cody's Mora is seen, but I never saw Dave's knife if he had one either??

Florida Everglades.

Good episode. Laughed at the tree-enema joke. Liked the snow shelter. Didn't like the split match thing, but this trick is so often told I wasn't too surprised to see it. The wool wick with chapstick was a good idea. Don't quit under stand how he could hold onto and lower Cody with paracord given his cold hands. Snowshoes were cool but perhaps overly elaborate with all the webbing. Why not just tie a few more cross bars in place and skip the webbing, thats all Mors does. Lean to was nice as well.

I liked last nights show. I thought the orange para cord was pretty cool. You all know how I like the orange.
You know if Cody want and likes to wear shorts in the snow more power to him. I am not going to do that. I would be dressed more like Dave was.

All in all a pretty good show.
