So, what's your favorite woods knife?

You know pitdog, that is right up there with my favorites.

Here is the deal if this question had been If you were to walk out the door, right now. What fixed blade knife would you take if that was the only knife you could take with you for a 30 day camping / survival trip anywhere on the planet but the frozen north.
If I was heading to Canada or something like that I would be taking my axe lol.
Then I would say this knife design

Out of all the knife designs that I have made for me this is my favorite one I am just tickle pink:eek: with it.
The more I handle this knife and the way I shaped the handle it is the best so far.

The fixed blade that probably sees the most use is this one from Ray Laconico (hard to choose among all of my Laconicos, but this goes with me more often than the others)

Mine is a spyderco bushcrafter as will. Its kinda ugly, but the most comfortable grip I have ever felt.

Of the 10 fixed blades I've thinned my stash out to, I have 8 "favorites" and couldn't pic a single one as my most-liked. The represent the best (for me) of anything I've had thru here. Like Mistwalker said, depends on the mood.
After a few years of handling many blades, I've learned what works for me and what doesn't. Figure out what fits your hand best and stick with what works for you.

+ 1 and 2 on the Laconico's. I usually carry a 5.5" Laconico. If not that, then the 6.5" Laconico...... Starting to see a trend here.... All in all, I carry my CRK Professional Soldier everyday though and always with a larger knife (Laconico) while in the woods. The CRK Professional Soldier is a highly underrated knife IMHO. Modified the sheath a little and wrapped the rear 2/3 of the handle with 3/32" cord and it serves me well. It also opens doors when i forget my keys at work..... a great, easy riding knife.

This weekend, it was a nice little 3 7/8" blade, out of 1095 steel, and made by Doug at D/P knives. The handle was done by Russell Mikolajczyk , and the sheath by Steve from RedNeck Knives.

After having this knife made I have started selling knives off instead of buying more

This covers me for about all camping needs save for when it's really really cold.

I am quite comfortable hiking with just an Izula II and a swiss army knife in warmer weather. The Izula II is my preferred skinner.

Backwoods Camping I carry an Izula 2, Kershaw Blur, and most importantly a Mossberg 500 JIC for the bears (I live in Alberta)

I also have my ugly stick for those dangerous killer trout.

Man I like the looks of this one. Maker, specs??

While I agree with you, there got to be ONE knife that holds spot #1 as we speak, for one reason or another. Try again Mist :D.

That's just it...they are all final products of tests and number ones in their own right...but number one for a particular purpose, weather, and mood. The one you are referring to, the one that would actually hold THE number one spot, at this point only exists in my mind...for now anyway. It is a combination of elements all five of my favorite knives and favorite carry systems. Hopefully I can afford to have it made soon.

Iz Turley is the maker. 4 inch blade, 4.5 inch handle, 1/8" O1 tool steel. I think the stock was 1.5 inches tall. Full height convex and Iz puts a convex secondary on it (which is nice and thin). Camo G10 over orange G10. I drew up the pattern myself and Iz agreed to make it. Iz made a Kydex sheath for it (not pictured) and the leather one came from a guy that goes by cricketdave.

If I'm going out for a stay, its always my BK7. Just a hike.... either my Seal Pup, or Izula. Depends on what I might be getting into :-)

Hey LMT, is the medium size one w/ the hemp wrap from Rick Marchand??

I can honestly say that only two things keep my Fiddleback Hunter from being "the one", it is an amazing knife! But only two things keep the BK-2 from being the one, and two things keep the RC-4 from being the one, and two things keep the Mohawk Hunter from being the one, and two things keep my Breeden Sojourner from being the one and in all of the above the two things are a different two things...
