Funny that people feel like profit is a bad word. I'm sure they have never sold anything for a profit themselves. I will also bet they work for there boss for free.

Talk about

After telling myself (for a few hours) that I didn't need another knife right now, and determining that I have a few in that size range that would cover my needs (however nebulous and undefined those are), I ordered one with black canvas. Well, at least I won't have that struggle going on in my head now. Mike

I think this knife is something else, feels really really good in hand.

Well, my wife will certainly be calling me a SOB, when my new SOB gets here :) Went with the black paper, looked too pretty on the site to pass up.....although, I will be really interested to see what some of the g10s look like with that brick pattern.

No I think what you hearing is....

THE SHOWS ARE OPEN TO EVERYONE!

GET OFF YOUR ARSE AND COME ENJOY THE PARTY!:)

I have proxied as many as 36 blades at one show all on my dime only to see most hit the x in time. Some before I even listed my own. Others Ive had to buy back at more than I even sold em for:barf:

Eric has proxied for folks for years and has seen the same for anyone to imply anything different is ludicrous.

A proxy is a gift someone gives you. It is not something you are entitled too:thumbdn:

I think you misunderstood my post. I wasn't targeting anyone on these forums specifically...I was simply agreeing with Tom on the principle. That, and trying to throw a friendly (Bravado style) jab at the Hogs on behalf of my Dogs. If it came across as a direct attack on Eric, I apologize as it was not intended to be.

The times I've been lucky enough to plan accordingly and get a proxy, I've always gifted something back of meaningful value. Once, I sent a box of AR parts for my proxy's build, out of respect / thanks for him going out of his way to proxy me a blade...a small, relatively inexpensive blade. It is more about the effort involved, than the pricing. So I'm hopeful you aren't calling me entitled, as your words would be sorely misplaced.

Regarding show attendance, I agree with you. I choose not to go because I have other priorities. That's on me....thus, I have the options to choose 1) to find a generous individual to proxy with enough heads up and assuming I'm not traveling / working, 2) pay for someone else's hotel room by purchasing on the exchange, or 3) wait to put money in Jerry's pocket. I usually choose 3, and lose out on some cool blades because of that. Oh well....it's a choice I make, for me alone. If others want to throw away their money, not my problem. :D I just wish they would throw it away in my trash can, lol.

Tom Kanik, Izhmash, and knife hunter have all three helped me out from time to time. This community benefits from their participation. Thanks for doing what you do, guys.

WOOF WOOF WOOF WOOF!:D

Eric, as you well know, I travel to Blade and suffer the expenses involved. However, I don't pass them on to folks whom I proxy for. I realize that you are a dealer, (get special dealer pricing as well?), and look to profit on knife sales. If you can get folks to pay the marked-up prices...good for you! I just don't have the concience..or lack thereof...to offer to "help" fellow forum members like some of the dealers on this forum. By the way, did you notice that I did NOT mention any names in my previous posts? If the shoe fits...WEAR IT!;) By the way, if the big oil companies jack up the price of gas by 15 or 20 cents a gallon, I bet you're quick to complain about "price gouging"!

Tom, we can understand your frustration, but consider this. Even though we can see the Dealer action at shows, that doesn't mean that there isn't also quiet proxy activity going on, as well. Proxy buying is usually sub rosa, and not splashed across the Forum. Over the years, various folks in the community have helped me, and I have helped others in the community. The high volume dealer buying is a more recent trend; the last time I was at the KC hotel show a certain now-banned buyer bought all the leftover HG55 knives after the initial Trough Raid. That was 25+ knives, on top of his initial score!

As Trevor noted, it is equally frustrating to proxy for someone, only to have them flip it for profit. To my way of thinking, that it not what the proxy relationship is about.

If I were to buy the LE I'd go for G10 scales and when you add shipping, that will bring me to the price I payed for one SOB on the exchange with double cut finish. I really like the double cut finish(not an option currently) and I can live with the micarta handles so from that standpoint for me it does not matter that the knife was flipped.

How bout them SOB's huh, sexy lil blades. Pokey get us some pics of the multi color g10 with the brick pattern, please!

I agree with you R/G; I don't appreciate being a proxy for someone and then seeing them "flip" it for profit while I charged them actual price. However, I also don't go through the expense of attending Blade with the intent of buying a bunch of knives to re-sell at a greatly marked up price, especially as seen with the last Knob show. It's interesting as to how many folks here have great animosity for Liu Kang and his practices, but when done by certain "select" individuals it gets overlooked. I have purchased knives directly from some of the dealers here, and been quite happy with the deals. However, I don't believe that I paid as huge a mark-up as we have recently seen; again much appreciated. I proxy for folks who can't make the show as a way of genuinely helpng THEM, not myself. I certainly don't have to do it, and try to limit my offer to only one knife model per person in order to avoid the "flip for profit" approach.

I never mentioned any names, as I feel that folks can figure out who the parties are. I have "defended" re-sellers in the past when I thought they were helping folks with reasonable mark-ups. I felt that what we saw at Knob was just a classic case of pure greed, and I am disappointed with a couple of people, as I am sure they are with me. For my efforts, I have received a warning by one of the re-sellers whom I have dealt with in the past. I have been here and a Busse customer for quite a while, and don't expect that to change. However, the folks that I do business with will.

Tom

How about we resolve all of this by encouraging Jerry to rerelease the HOGFSH and finally put out the Basic 8 -- both for 50% of what it normally would sell for as a customer appreciation Ganzaaaaa!!

Great idea! Just completed my order for a SOB with black canvas/satin, looking forward to this one.

Now what if I was able to personally guarantee 10,000 units sold in one large contract purchase??? How about then

You would be a dealer selling Busse knives, and I would HOPE at a reasonable price. I see where you're going.;)

The couple of times I have been able to proxy someone (when Busse came near my locale) doing a favor to a fellow Hog was its own reward.

That said, different people are at different places when it comes to reselling knives, guns, and especially ammo. Different people define "community" in different ways. For me, Gunbroker or Ebay have no real community. Here among Hogs, it's a different story.

Personally, I like having a shot at buying something cool at the shows that i can almost never attend. I appreciate the exchange, and if it looks too pricey, I don't buy it. No harm done.

I would, however take exception to proxying for someone whose only intention was to profit off from my personal favor. They wouldn't be getting very many favors from me in the future.

Proxy buys should only be for honest intent as a "keeper", i.e. it would be wrong to ask for a proxy if you plan to flip it. In my opinion, proxy is personal and an act of friendship.
