Is it common, or perhaps even expected, that a Case Sodbuster Jr. would exhibit side-to-side blade play? I've had my chestnut bone Jr. for quite some time now but only recently realized it has a small amount of play. Not a big deal to me but curious as to what you folks with more Soddie experience have found.

I have only a few case soddies all my yellow and black have side to side blade play (but for the price I'm ok with it) I only have 2 in bone they have every little.

My queen country cousin are the worst when it comes to blade play. And yet I still bought 3 hoping each time it was just a bad one in the bunch.

Certainly hear others report this, but I must have got a really sublime version. No play at all, centre AND IT ARRIVED SHARP!! How did that slip through??:D:D;)
It is a really good knife and by far my favourite Sodbuster, has a better shaped blade than the CASE and it has thicker more comfortable handles. Would not want to part with it

Thanks, Will.

Same for me, I have a few in Delrin, Bone and Wood, all arrived sharp and no blade play at all! :)
No problem with the Country Cousin. IE as long as we talk about blade play. There was a #1mm gap on one slab... and now the D2 is razor sharp.

The most recent Case Sodbuster Jr. I bought came from the factory as sharp as any factory knife I've ever seen. I'm sure I could cleanly do surgery with it if I had to. Whatever Case is doing to sharpen their knives, they should keep doing it.

The 71's were actually changed to 1095 in October of 2015. The last run that used O1 was December of 2013. All of the F&F models were changed to 1095. You can probably do a search and find the discussions that were centered around this change when it happened. :)

I don't have a sodbuster - seems like there's a lot of people that are fans. I've got one on reserve from this upcoming GEC run to check it out. Having never owned a sodbuster, I think I'm interested in the simple design, size of the 71, lanyard hole, and durable covers..

I'm so excited. My canvas micarta Mudbug is waiting in the mail box for me. Now I have 5 long hours of waiting.....

Anybody have experience with the pancake sheath for the Mudbug with regards to build quality/fit/comfort..?

I've been using one with my green linen micarta Mudbug for a little over a year now. It's what I carry on my belt most often, when I'm hiking and camping. The craftsmanship is first rate. Nice supple leather and excellent stitching. The sheath rides nice and tight to your hip, and is perfectly canted. Extremely secure, if you dedicate the sheath to that one model of knife.

I've own some thicker, more robust pancake sheaths for other knives. But they're nowhere near as comfortable as the Mudbug sheath.

The new canvas micarta Mudbug is very sweet. Mine is pretty much perfect. The blade is flush to the back spring in both positions. Blade is dead on center. Nice smooth opening and closing. Very nice buffing on the micarta covers. Scary scalpel sharp. Easy to pinch blade. And a nice big swedge this year. I didn't think the Mudbug could get any nicer than the last run, but it did.

This knife will make a perfect companion for my 77 Barlow.
