Sodbuster...and lots of them!

Scored a Queen sodbuster in micarta with no shield, which I've never come across before. Not sure if this was in production for a short time, an anomaly or maybe a prototype for the linen micarta versions with the shield. Either way it's cool to have it part of the collection! Here are a few pics of the knife and then a pic of the two I have with a shield. Notice that the first run of them has a smaller shield, the second run had a larger shield.

Nice knife, the all brass construction really stands out.

I think that first run of that series looks the best, I regret not picking one up!

Looks like Case is releasing a few more handle options, one of which I've been waiting for since I started collecting the pattern...Orange Delrin. Can't wait for that one!!

The other is Jigged Rosewood, looks great!

Orange delrin case?! Excellent! My GEC orange redneck bullnose hasn't been getting much pocket time after they switched from the Redneck stamps & pins.

edit: Ok - my google-fu is weak this AM. Any word on when or if these will be available in the full-size pattern like the blue American Workman?

I pulled this off of the Case website, so far it appears it's only the Jr sodbusters getting the additional covers. I'll keep an eye out and post any news on that front. Are you aware that GEC is releasing a larger Bullnose this year, comparable in size to the larger Case sodbuster? It's named the Bull Buster and there is even a lockback version that is being run as an SFO.

Dern the bad luck! Oh well. I don't have a Case JR yet.... This might be a good excuse. :D

I was not aware! I see it's coming in Orange, black & micarta (among others). I'm excited about this one now.

The Sodbuster is my favorite pattern.... and it's pretty much the extent of the traditionals in my drawer. I love using them, but don't collect per se. I just casually peruse what's out there from time-to-time and pick one up if it suits my taste.

I love the focus of this collection. My 20-30 knives are just kinda all over the place with random members from random families that I caught as catch could. This is special. Sort of more intellectual? Refined? Thank you for sharing.

Thanks for the kind words! My hope for this thread was to give people options and information on a great pattern while sharing my own collection. I also hope people will post their own sodbusters, ask questions or even throw in information that I don't know or have posted. I have some major updates to do to the orginal post with pictures, just need to find some time to get some new pictures and write out the post. I want this thread to evolve as time goes, just takes time:D

I couldn't agree more with the CV option for the new Cases. I wish they offered that in all their new handle choices but it seems that they only release that steel on a few select handle choices...too bad.

First came this tried and true work horse...

Then I went a little Reneck...

My current regular. This one, sadly, hasn't had the agrarian lifestyle the other two enjoyed. I "grew up" and got a cushy desk job.

Looking back on your thread makes me want to dig out my old frame-lock Case.

Would love to see the frame lock, they look like good old blades to me, just a bit bigger than I usually collect. I'll pick one up eventually!

Also, Case is releasing a Red Jigged Bone Christmas Sodbuster Jr. Love the bone, the etch is great for one month a year so I'll probably pick one up for keeping and one for carrying and remove the etch.

I only have one Sodbuster, but it's my go-to, hard-work, no-nonsense workhorse.

Good looking' sodbuster, ranchman!:thumbup::thumb up:

Kind of like the guy who pulls up in front of the bar with a dented up old truck, walks in with horse putty still on his boots, sweat stained battered Stetson on his head, and jeans coated with dust. No drug store cowboy there. JUst an honest working cowhand, like that well stained sodbuster. Yeah, real deal worker there!

trevytrev, you sir are the king of sodbusters! Thanks for sharing your collection with us.

I too wish Case would offer CV in more variations of the Sodbuster. I really like the SB Jr's with jigged bone but only have the Chestnut Bone because I strongly prefer the CV to the SS. Here is one of mine.

Here are my GEC Bull Nose knives when they were all clean and new. Notice the two with bails.

And here are the two with bails after carrying and using them for awhile.

Thanks Brisket, glad you enjoy them. I took a few pics today to add to the photos but admittedly I'm way behind, I have tons more than I've posted. You have some of my favs, the Case CV and the GEC's.

Danger, the abalone Kissing Crane can be found in most places online. It's not real abalone, just a plastic lookalike but they actually have pretty good fit and finish. For about $12 you can't go wrong really.

Oh heck. How can you have a thread about sodbusters without Bulldogs.

3 & 3/4" Green composite

4 & 3/4" Yellow composite

And no post about sodbusters would be complete without a Case Sod Buster Junior.

Good Ones Ed! Here are my Bulldogs along with my Carl Schlieper 99jr's. I believe both brands are made in the Fredrich Olbertz factory
