Much obliged!

Also, the Sodbuster is my favourite traditional pattern. This thread makes me happy!

Remember the chicken from post # 1 ?

It tasted pretty good however I like chicken to be very well done and this one could have used a few more minutes in the oven.

My soddie carved it out like a champ  .

No other pocket knife I own could have done as good a job on this poor chicken.

PS: Why did I use a pocket knife for this ? ... I am still trying to figure it out lol :D

I've enjoyed seeing and learning about the different examples posted of this popular pattern ( sod buster , sodbuster and also known by other names as well depending on brands, country etc )

That one's a KHnutbuster Dan, the signature pattern of custom knifemaker Kerry Hampton. Kerry was trained by Tony Bose. He made that knife for me to carry on my wedding day. It's too valuable to tote every day, but I make sure it's in my pocket every year on my anniversary.

Oh wow, so nice !
I am glad I asked.
My knowledge of knives is limited but I knew this one was a special one when I saw it.

Yes  TY :)
The sodbuster home thread that I had been looking for

Stop it, now you are just showing off. We all know you have one with magnificent jigged bone.:D:thumbsup:;).

Just the strings! Do you know how to replace the strings on your daughter's violin Dan? Bravo!

My daughter started learning the violin last year. We rented an instrument at first, but this summer we bought her one of her own, a 3/4. Talk about confusing! I was thoroughly perplexed and had the hardest time figuring out which one to get. I know plenty of people who play the piano and more than a few who can play the guitar, but I know absolutely no one who has the slightest hint of knowledge about violins. I read a fair bit on the 'Net, learned to stay away from VSOs, but am still mostly ignorant on the subject. Ultimately I decided to simply go with the recommendation of a trusted vendor. Nothing fancy, just a solid student-level instrument that wouldn't discourage my daughter and was of decent enough quality that it wouldn't hold her back as she progressed in her musical education. I can look into better with her next, full-sized, instrument if she shows any love or affinity for it.

When it comes time to replace the strings though, I think I'm going to utilize the services of the local shop, at least for the first couple of times. I'll be standing right by, watching and learning.

Great to see the different brands/models out there
There is something very appealing about these "working man" type of knives that I am naturally drawn towards.

CelloDan CelloDan I'd actually contact CASE about that cv/ss slip up, I mean it is a competence thing and they probably would want to know. You might get a freebie who knows? ;)

A great work-knife and a rewarding carry.

TY Will, I wrote to Case , send them pics.
I'll post their response when it comes.

Thanks for sharing Christian, I can relate for sure :)
I share your frustration with the string changes. Great idea to have the vendor/luthier show you a couple times. Main thing is to only change one at a time to minimize the chances of the bridge moving and never overstretching or tuning a new string too high by accident. I keep the tuner handy and work slowly one by one. Let them settle and retune a couple hours later and repeat a few more times until they settle in.

Good that you stayed away from the violin shaped objects ( VSO's) lol , they are very frustrating (impossible) to tune and play.

Music has been a very rewarding endeavor for us as a family and for our kids and wish you and your daughter the same  :)

So I just shamelessly borrowed my daughter's violin so my soddie can pose for a pic :D
