SODBUSTERS... bust 'em out, work 'em hard and show 'em off

I have a Carl Schlieper just like the one in your photo. On the right tang it is marked "D.R.G.M" and under that "1423923". I read the D.R.G.M. and apparently the number were like a German pattern number. The D.R.G.M. was last authorized in 1953 but could be used for three years, which would be in 1956 so my knife, if the information is correct is 70 years old today. Is your knife similarly marked? John
 
Sodbusters are great "do it all" knives. I have an old Herder downstairs I use for breaking up boxes and any odd job that needs doing and that knife doesn't quit. It was given to me several years ago when it was already an old beat up knife. Takes and holds a pretty darn decent edge.
 
My EDC is another Carl Schlieper Sodbuster with stag grips. Got it at a NW Knife show for $10. Even told the seller its was worth more than that but he just wanted to get rid of it. I had a belt sheath made for it by Gary W. Graley, over on the sheath forum and he cleaned the knife up for me and put a great edge on it. I believe Schlieper used 1075 steel, whatever the steel is it sharpens up easily and takes a good edge. John

John, not sodbusters but you might like a few of the knives I posted in another thread here in the Traditional Forum.

The Large Case Tru-Sharp Sodbuster. Recent Cabelas in MN. Ugh. Will you look at THAT GAP! A New World Record!! Side play nearly a centimeter. Look closely at the L-side brass liner you can see it was not properly ground and is left w quite a ledge which makes for a step that contributes to the GAP. The L-side liner was over-ground about 25% too deep for a section at the front end. Really weird since they should easily become completely flat ground. How that grind got in there…? I get it - $50 knife, but still this isn’t right how it slipped by.

Bought from the blister pack and immediately returned and exchanged. Goodness I opened it up in the restroom before I left. The other one was near 100% good. Down the road may need a bit of tightening but the first was frightening.
