SODBUSTERS... bust 'em out, work 'em hard and show 'em off

"The little soddie that could" :)

So last night I took my yellow soddie to the stones ... rather I took it to the sandpaper.

I modified an economical guided system to use 3M PSA lapping films.

The grind was very nice to begin with and was very even on both sides.
It was rough but nice .

The angle was about 18 to 20 degrees rough estimate.

I reprofiled the bevel to 15 degrees per side using just the coarse film. I know David @Obsessed with Edges goes even lower than that.
Because of the hollow grind it was so much faster and easier to do than on my stainless flat ground one ( and on the stainless I had used diamond stones to reprofile )

I am beyond pleased with the results :)

As it came from factory

Watching my reflection on the new mirror bevel :D

Flat ground ss bevel on the chestnut bone is a little wider, especially at the tip because of the thicker stock ( both knives at 15 degrees per side).

And because a video is worth a thousand pictures lol :D

Wow! Fantastic job, hopefully someday I will be able to put an edge on a knife like that!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Glad I saw this thread. Really appreciating my smaller sodbuster knives for just how easy to carry they are. I have a Halloween Sodbuster Jr, but I noticed that carrying it was causing some scratching/flaking on the halloween design on the handle. I think I will reserve that one for October carry only.

Still, I wanted a Sodbuster Jr size knife to carry around. I found Godshall Knives on Instagram, and when he offered this up for sale, I purchased it. He takes run of the mill Sodbusters and gives them new covers.
Canvas Micarta, Red G10 liners.

I love micarta, and I love having something unique.

I'm usually not a big fan of canvas micarta (I much prefer linen micarta), but this turned out really nice.

WOW, so nice, good for you
I checked some of his work and is just breathtaking !

I remember seeing the video after you made those covers Joshua, very nice :)

I just pulled the trigger on a small Otter. I was torn between the Otter and the Masserin plow.
Otter won this round but I am afraid the Masserin may find it's way up north one day too. Can not have everything I want at once lol :)

It will be a while before it gets to Canada I am afraid but I've got time :)
