solipsitude

screaming from an empty sky
the hawk descends to outfly its hapless prey
which might decide to flee or hide
but still is doomed to die

words tumbling
pebbles in a rushing stream
poets fumbling
writing down a fast-forgotten dream

tropical birds in blazing color
shotguns blasting feathers from the sky
falling now and somehow duller
all that lives must die

the vulture, brother to the hawk
circles patiently, avoiding useless talk

Well, no, I didn't mean it that way. :D

It is very vivid and has an interesting meter. The reason I find it incredible or unbelievable or incredibly unbelievable is that reviews and/or review requests on outdoor gear... Where members specifically desire the input of people who use the gear outdoors are routinely moved to other sub-forums.

I know I risk yet another wave of microscopy until someone can hang another infraction on me, but I fail to see how this qualifies as a legitimate thread in here given the current policing of this forum.

And it's not that I find it distasteful or outside of the realm of this subforum! It does belong here, in my opinion. However, as the rules are currently being enforced, it does not, in my opinion...

With BF's diverse population of members and modertors, we will always have disagreements on what works and what does not.

Have I been in the forefront of those who move everything that doesn't carve a spoon or start a fire? Here I am trying to encourage a broader view of what works

and I get an argument about that too. OK, I'll go away. You all moderate yourselves ... until another mod comes along.

Are you saying that no consensus has been reached as to how to police a forum and instead every moderator just does their own thing?

I do not want to put words in your mouth, but I don't know what else to decipher from that quoted portion of your post.

...and I get an argument about that too.

No, I'm not arguing with you at all. I'm being incredibly polite and complimentary...but that is apparently not enough. You feel as though you "cannot win" and I know I cannot here. That's precisely why I am not "arguing" but if it has come to the point where even a minor discussion with a moderator about something they have done or said, when done so politely, brings on the hellhounds, this place is basically done.

OK, I'll go away.

:::shrug::: There is nothing I can say about this that would not be counterproductive.

You all moderate yourselves ... until another mod comes along.

The threat of the hated hellhound of BFC? Is that what everything has devolved into around here? When I posted to this thread it had about 97 views and NOT ONE person posted ANYTHING. Do you know why that is?

It's not because your poetry was pedestrian prose, it is quite good, actually. It's because they don't want to incur the wrath of anyone.

Most of the people who viewed it, not all, but most of them, were thinking the same, exact thing I was. They're just too scared to say it or don't want the hassle of the aforementioned hellhound.

I'm just apparently the only person around here stupid enough to speak my mind from time to time.

Dont feel like the lone ranger Don. I have picked up infractions that made little, or no sense. It is what has stopped me from upgrading my membership. I work hard for my dinero, and would not wish to lose my dues because I was banned. I believe you to be right, no one wishes to touch this with a 10 foot pole.

Poetry invoking wilderness imagery doesn't belong in a wilderness forum?

Who knew? :)

Pretty sure we've discussed "Walden" in here before.

esav can do his poetry anywhere as far as i'm concerned. this is a rare talent & i love his sharing of it. some people stare so hard to look thru the needles eye that they go blind.

Exactly. It's like jackknife and his fantastic stories in the Traditional forum. Even if it is moved, does it really matter?

Thanks for the update, i will have to remember that in the future, nothing but review of wilderness tools in the wilderness forum. poetry of the wilderness is a big NO NO. I guess that should go on to some people posting their camping trips since they are posting a sort of story of their camping.

Nice poem Esav well done brother.

תמשיכ חבר ותן להמ לדפוק את הראש שלהמ

If the poetry was about computers, I could see it getting moved. Why would poetry inspired by the wilderness not belong in wilderness and survival skills?

For the record, I think most people get banned for being complete asshats so if you aren't an asshat, your investment is safe.

I'm not usually a big fan of poetry (Odd, seeing as how I studied English Lit), but I like it. Thank you Esav.

I also think that it belongs here, just as any story of the wilderness and it's flora and fauna would.

I even Italicized it to start with, still people do not read or comprehend what they read.

This is W&SS not "The post anything I want because I only read this forum" Forum.

Read the remainder of the Sticky.

If you are going to establish guidelines and rules, then at least have the decency to abide by them. Lead by example.

Were Don, myself, or another to initiate a thread such as this, I doubt that it would be long lived.

This thread will obviously digress into into nothing more than a flame war, which will ultimately result in not a single constuctive contribution towards why most of us are here.

Don is entirely correct in pointing out the problem with this thread, it is a matter of "Do as I say, not what I do". It has less to do with the content, which everyone seems to be focused on.

Close the thread, or move it. It is what would happen were the OP initiated by someone else.

We do have you and Don trying hard to turn this thread into a flame war.
We have several others of a different opinion.
