I had to go back and edit my post it was 2020 BOTM, not 2002. My dyslexia kicks in and the strangest times, sorry.

Thanks, I do hope you are able to find one.

Yep the 112 Workman is a odd one. To this day finger grooved nickel silver frame 112's are uncommon. It's been the base of many customs over the years along with the NS 25th anniversary 112. What I found that was really interesting about the Workman was made for Walmart. A nickel silver 112 was a real find in the 90's and even up until 2007 or so was bid higher than a equivalent 110 on Ebay. Buying 112's now we have LOTS of choices in blade steels, handle materials, and Limited Editions. When I started collecting 112's in 2007 even finding a 112 in S30V or a drop point was a happy day.

Bucksway, I thought some of the Workman knives were also sold at Sears and maybe a few other hardware stores. I don't know much about them as I was just a kid in the 80s. I bought the 112 Workman around 2010 from the owner of The Knife Shop in Fort Mill, SC. I use to go in and we'd have conversations about knives and one day started talking about Buck and he started showing me some of the 110's and 112's he owned. That one came from his personal collection. He passed away in 2016 and the shop closed it's doors. Wish I had asked where he had acquired it from.

If I could find a NIB (or hanging rack package ?) 112 Workman I would proudly display it lol! I've never seen one for sale new or used and I have looked REALLY hard to find one since I first became aware of it around 2011. But that is part of the joy of collecting..the hunt. Just like the few BG42 112's out in the wild it will be a happy day when I find one. But a little sad too. Because the search is over. So many 112's..so little bucks...

I have a two-dot 112 on the way in original box with papers and sheath. For under $79 shipped, I think I did well. Looks like it was carried a bit but never used (we'll see when it arrives).

Yes I consider the Ecolite the best 'User' version of the 112 ever. As far as why it was discontinued my best guess is slow sales and to make room for other light weight versions that were probably in planning stages at that time. I am lucky enough to have one of a handful (5 maybe?) of engineering samples that didn't have the metal liner in the handle. I'm guessing having to add the liner increased cost to the point Buck went in a different direction. I was talking to Joe one day about the original prototype 112 and if pictures were known or any survived when he mentioned he had a few of the Ecolite sample handles with no liner on his desk and I asked if he would put a blade in one for me and that lucky phone call was how I have a prototype of what it originally was planned to be. I like the Ecolite and if you search hard you can find some odd ones. Advertising Ecolite's are really rare but out there. I always look for the oddballs but because the series was so short not many show up. SMKW had a couple of short runs. At the time I hoped we would see many variations like the Bucklites but it was not to be..

Out of all of the "light" 112 I still think the paperstone ecolites were the best, it's a shame they stopped making them. Anyone know why?

I have a black EcoLite 112, gave my bro in law the green one (wish he'd have chosen the black, but oh well), and just got my plum red 110 EcoLite. Love em. Wish they'd have kept them in the linup.

Would you be able to share a few pictures of that? I'm extremely curious with how they compare.

That's my one regret. I wish I had been smart enough to buy more. Specifically a plum red one. Biggest regret, wish I had a 110 in green and red and another 112 in plum red. But at the time, it was just a user to me and I figured one was enough, and then I blinked and they were gone.

This knife is bad medicine. I am now addicted and can't quit looking at bucks. In fact I ordered two right after this one (LT series) and have two on the way. o_O AND...I have at least two more next on my "list". What have I done?:poop:
Understood and agreed. When I found out that Buck made drop points I ran out and bought 2 110s.
2 months later it’s a 112 then a 112 drop point. Sold and gave away my Gerbers and Shrades

Tell me about it!

It was one year ago this month that I only owned one Buck, a Mini on my keychain. I decided that I needed a nice fixed blade for hiking so I wandered down to the local C. Tire and selected a 119. They also had a 110 sitting in the cabinet so I quickly jumped on that. Two days later I went back for the 112 LT. Then I started searching online and landed here. That's when the real fun began.

Here we are one year later and I've now surpassed 50 Bucks in the stable, and counting (five more in transit).

The 112 is my favorite pattern with the 110 being a very close second.

Jeff I truly understand..It happened to me too! It took me awhile to actually use some of my 112's in super steels but when I did I finally got it. S30V D2 S35VN BG42 112's were so rare for so long I I couldn't bring myself to use one. My Slim Pro plus is STILL sharp..

Hanging around the house today, waiting for a new Slim Pro to arrive but the Postal people don't seem to know where my package is at the moment. :(

While we're waiting, here's a Canadianized 112 Slim Select that my American friends don't get to see very much:

I have removed the pocket clip and due to the missing thumb stud it makes for a very lightweight, slim and snagless EDC. I would LOVE to swap in an S30V or S35VN blade on one of these and maybe some day I'll have a go.
