Some Buck 112 Love

I like my 112 as simple as possible. With me today:

Thought that I would share this first version Buck 112. Apparently it was one of 16 that the Buck Custom shop (per an email from Joe Houser) retrofitted with a BG-42 blade, it also has a Buck 112 Custom stamped tan sheath. Unfortunately, I don't have any further details on this build.

uh-oh, that is really nice but bucksway bucksway is going to be drooling all over his keyboard  Don't think he has found one yet.
ScottK ScottK does that have the BG 42 etched on the other side?

HOLY GUACAMOLE! An old Buck 112 with a BG-42 blade swap? That's a dream knife, right there. KUDOS!

I realize BG-42 isn't as awesome today given the plethora of super steels, but it will always be a sentimental favorite. I cut a lot of stuff with my blade-swapped Buck 110 before I retired it!

That's the first I have heard about the number 16 being mentioned concerning BG42 112's..Joe had apox 100 blades made although I'm sure there was 10-15 more made. They were not marked at first in any way and in fact a few knives were made with unmarked blades. Joe was told they would have to go thru heat treatment again in order to be stamped with the BG42 stamp so the decision was made to etch the BG42 to skip that process. As far as I know it was never offered 'officially' on Bucks website but only informally here on the forum to folks who really wanted one. Looking at old threads here it took about 6 to 8 weeks for all the blades to be used. I know at least one was installed in a Bucklite, one forum member had at least 5 done for his Sons and one that exists in a nickel silver frame with Pukka shell handles. Most I've seen or heard about are in brass frames with Ebony handles. A few I know were put in finger grooved handles. Joe did offer that you could buy a new 112 and have that blade installed without sending in a knife. I do know of two loose blades somebody not late has lol! I had just one in hand back in 2007 but passed because of price and the fact it was kinda beat up. I did not consider back then of just putting it in another handle. Up until recently I knew of none for sale AT ALL. I consider all a very important and significant part of Bucks history first because all went into the hands of Collectors right from the start either for users or just put it the pile/mushroom closet. The original cost of $35.00 just for a upgraded blade was not inexpensive at the time and BG42 was considered THE super steel at the time and even with all the choices we have now still is considered a great choice to actually use even now.
If Buck offered it today on any folder or fixed blade as a LE or limited Custom shop option any or all would disappear in hours. I consider it a real rarity in the 112 world..

As I understand it, Joe only put 6 of these together for sale at one of the BCCI gatherings.

I'll check my notes and confirm.

The one I have does not have the BG42 engraving either.

Bottom 3 are BG42. Bottom one is the V1 transplant.

Thanks for the info, so it was only 6 that Joe put together for the BCCI gathering. Interesting. Unfortunately the pile side tang is blank with no BG 42 marking.

If anyone can tell me what version and year this is i would appreciate it. I thought it was the second year?

Is that comment an answer to my question in #417 about my 112 in #416? Bucksway?
Anyway your answer seems to be what i thought.
The wood is definitely different than anything i have ever seen on a stock buck 112 or 110.
Was hoping some one knew the category and type or whatever that is?
