Some cooking pots...

I've got one of those little stowaway setups too, mine houses a PSK.
For backpacking etc I have a somewhat larger two pot setup that fits my simmerlite stove inside for transport, along with a couple other basics.

i wish i could find a nesting cup for a nalgene, or a german kit locally they are just nowhere to be found i have a swede kit, but i want to try the 3pc german kit,

rock could you post pics of the german kit closer to the swede one?

i believe i have more cookware and such than that, ill see if i can find it all and post some pics

I just experienced this warm, fuzzy feeling. :D

Tell me Rock, what is the cup, with the folding handle that is on the bottom of the large Guyot?

Doc

:D
Hey Doc, it's just an older Olicamp stainless nesting cup. I've heard some fit and some don't...

Great pics!

Could you tell me whether or not the Vargo lid is a good fit for the Snowpeak. I have the vargo but like the Snowpeaks measuring lines but prefer the vargo lid. Im pretty sure they will fit but just want to check before buying.

Yeap, it fits, but it just sits on top (a little loosly) but work just fine. I like the Vargo lid, but I haven't used it over coals to heat water (could use aluminum foil) as I'm afraid the little lid nob would melt.

......That's about it!

"That's about it?"

That was fantastic! That was a great catalog of quite a lot of really neat cookware with great views and enough information for a fella to base a decision to purchase. I have bookmarked this thread in my "gear" folder. I have relied on (2) GI canteen cups for ages and have been wanting to try something else - something I can carry/store food in and that has a bail.

Thanks, Rock'. That was a great post.:thumbup::thumbup:

Thanks Jeff:o I appreciate the compliments. I know a few others here have used some of the stainless bottles with great success and that's another option for the kit bag...

I boiled several cups of water over hot coals (one side semi-facing the fire) with little effect on the plastic knob. Im sure it will be fine as long as you keep it away from direct flames.
I saw a couple aluminium knobs at the hardware store that I intend to take a closer look at to replace the plastic one.

I just picked up a German Mess kit for my Get-home-bag/survival kit (kit nestles in side of it), and a Swedish Mess kit minus the stove and windscreen for the family's Bug-out-bag. Love them both but find myself liking the German the best. It's a tad bit lighter.

Great thread. Thanks for sharing.

Hey Rock,
If you're concerned about the little lid knob, take it off and replace it with a stainless steel bolt, a regular nut and a cap nut. If you want to remove the lid while it's on the fire, use a twig with a little cut-out in it, a fork or anything like that.

Edit to read: and if you make the bolt long enough, it makes it quite easy to remove wearing gloves.

Thanks for the great post. I have a bunch of the Olicups on my Nalgenes, but I find they're too small to sit securely on the surplus Esbit-type solid fuel stoves I picked up recently. I was starting to look around at pots, and your post was very helpful.

Stay sharp,

I like the civil war one. What is the capacity?

HD, it holds one quart all the way to the rim. It's a great size and I love the design. Only downfall is that you have to almost cure it like cast iron and put more effort into keeping it clean and dry.

Rock. Do you know how the size of the nato canteen w/ cup compares to the US canteen? I'm trying to decide on a couple of pouches for my pack and need to figure out if it will fit.

S2, after pulling them out side by side, the NATO cut (Crusader cup) is a little larger and seems a little sturdier than the regular USGI. Both are stainless steel, but you can tell that the Crusader cup is a little larger:

It's funny - I had a lot of extra gear when I got out of the Army and I used those for years. At some point they went missing and I decided to replace them when I saw the Nalgene canteens. I got the cups and carriers and the canteens had just been pulled or exhausted. I gave up and decided to go with the SS Guyot bottles, SS cups and Maxpedition 10x4 carrier(s). When I went to a site someone here mentioned as a resource - I found the canteens and bought them instead.:D I don't tink I can resist starting a collection of pots/mess kits now though. looks like great fun.
