Some master kamis make guns!

Rusty, when I pass through Hawthorne I often wonder exactly what is hidden in those bunkers.

And, John, sounds like you have walked the walk -- as if I didn't know.

John,

Thanks for explaining this to me. The Marines in Miramar tell me they like El Toro better as it was closer to the city than Miramar. The citizens at Miramar are very pissed off because of the increased helicopter traffic. So anyway, seems like no body is happy with this deal.

I remember seeing a girl ( military wife ) on the news telling an interviewer in amazement "... They *want* us here!" a while back. The reason is that Fallon was a result of the Newlands Reclamation Project, the first water diversion of it's kind in the nation. Then when Reno/Sparks and others grew and took more water, the Pyramid Lake Tribe got the cui-ui fish on the endangered species list, And it was shut down the second largest urban area in the state or shaft the farmers on their water rights. Guess who lost? That's why Fallon loves the Navy. People from the east don't understand how apropos Mark Twain's comment was that ( at least out west in the Great American desert ), "Whiskey is for drinking. Water is for fighting over."

More off-topic nonsense: The 45/70 derringer, is marketed for bear defense; they call it the "Alaskan Survival Model." Several people posted on rec.guns that they had fired the thing. Every one of them was injured by the recoil, to varying degrees. My contribution to that thread: Give it to the bear and ask *him* to shoot it. With any luck he'll be hurt bad enough so you can escape....

Don't get excited, you animal rights activists -- here in the US we have the constitutional right to keep and arm bears.

Another way to have fun with explosives: the anvil toss! Set an old anvil on a pipe cap full of black powder and see how high you can toss it.

Thanks for the info on that 45-70 derringer Cougar. I was kind of interested on how that thing kicked.

Take a look at this clip from a very recent AP article. Notice the "primitive guns and curved daggers" reference?

Let's not jump to conclusions and blame the kamis for selling guns and khukuris to the Maoists. My guess would be the Maoists just take them and anything else they might want.

Uncle Bill

CHAUTARA, Nepal (AP) -- As Nepal embarks on the third democratic
election of its modern history, an armed Maoist insurgency is finding
increasingly fertile ground in its mountainous, undeveloped countryside.

Masked rebels with primitive guns, curved daggers and Maoist doctrine
are invading remote Nepalese villages, extorting food from residents,
looting banks and businesses, and seeking recruits among the
disenchanted poor.
