Some people just don't get it.

I have a manager who collects pens (granted, he uses all he collects, so he's the good kind of collector). He's seen some of the knives that I get shipped to work instead of to my home address, and while he understands that I enjoy knives he still cracks jokes about how he's adding another item to the list of things I do that worry him.

He has told me if I ever go on a killing rampage, he'd be all like, 'Yep, saw that coming'. -_-

Thankfully most of the other people I hang out with are much more appreciative when it comes to nice knives :)

I kind of like pens too, but I'm not a collector. Some are better than others! Mont Blanc pens are just awful, I have no idea why anybody buys those. Their ink refills are the worst! Anything that can be refilled by a Fisher Space Pen cartridge or at least a Parker is in the running for me.

I cut my sub sandwich in half with my Umnumzaan this afternoon. Perfect size for the job.
There are ignorant people in this world.
I've been asked why I carry a knife..."Do you wanna kill somebody?"
Yeah...total ignorance. Their level of stupidity often falls below our ability to answer.

hahaha - who do you want to stab with that? do you want to stab somebody?

ever since i was a kid (and carried a knife) this is the most common comment i got - seems like the sheeple are the same everywhere :D

This is why I enjoy harmless looking knives like the cold steel tuff / mini tuff or even an Opinel.
There's a real stigma on knives, and everyone who's not aware of the advantages of simply having a tool with you assumes it's for self defense or offense. I've even heard such claims as "if you carry a knife in public you agree to be stabbed with it or shot".
It's a damn shame that teenagers overdosing on testosterone and stabbing eachother over childhood crushes or petty insults have ruined it for all of us.

I have been there too. Just last night my Brother in law saw my knives and asked why I need so much and what do I do
With them.
Co-workers are another story. They look at you as if you are an Alien ( NJ is not that friendly for EDCing knives)

Since he enjoys it we talk a lot about it, he buys from super-small custom pen makers, but he never gets a pen that doesn't fit a parker refill or a pilot G2 refill. He's mostly into the design of the pen, he could care less how it writes. (the G2 cartridges write very well for the price, though)

I guess I'm lock because where I work and play it's people with out a multi tool or knife that gets the weird looks. I have one friend who gives me crap about having a knife but is always in need of one. Let him barrow once and told him it's time to put on big boy pants and get himself a knife he seems confused lol

here's my entry. in kids' schools and some children's encyclopaedia, they teach kids that canine teeth are for cutting and tearing. tearing maybe, but trying to cut with it is like trying to slice with an ice pick. canines are for sinking into the flesh of one's prey and holding on. it's the front teeth that cut, for pete's sake.

The knife is a useful tool, for some more than others. Job necessity, from daily cutting needs to emergency and rescue scenarios, as well as a valued survival tool.
Along with the specific work related needs, there are many knife uses and needs for the outdoorsman, along with hunters and fisherman, etc.
As a fellow knife collector, we see the beauty, and appreciate the quality and craftmanship of a good knife.
Carry disgression and resposibility should be executed...(Pun Intended) -but at the same time, we as 'knife' people know that we are not going to want to merely carry
a nice, somewhat non-threatening (to non-knife sheeple) gent knife, knowing that we may need something stouter, that we do not want to leave behind.
Multiple knife carrys can handle part of the issue, however, then the complaint will just include "Sheesh, How many knives do you carry at the same time"...
so i guess don't tell them about the third one you got somewhere on you...Ha

Now, as a knife owner, One can not deny that a knife is, and can be used as a weapon, as well. This is the reality of an edged blade.
Many knives are designed mainly for this purpose, and many are also designed for uitility, and other specific uses.
On the weapon side, Ideally, used as a self preservation defense weapon in the event that a situation becomes unnavoidable,
or the need presents itself. Unfortunately, this same knife in the hands of a criminal, and/or disturbed individual who does not value a human life, it becomes an aggressive deadly weapon.

With a hint of humor, my ancesters were cavemen and survivors of their time. Along with making fire, and crude stone and stick tools, some of these sharpened tools were found to make
effective weapons to hunt / fish with for food survival means. These same sharpened tools were also used to cut and prepare this meat, along with the capability to cut / remove animal hides for
primitive body warmth and protection. Tools and weapons alike, and when a dinosaur or a rival cave dweller came to try and take his food from him, his tools become his weapons of choice. B.T.B.

Oh yeah, my other favorite comment is to say " weapon?" Then I look at my hands and then in an over the top way hold em.up and declare "these are weapons!" . but that's more for friends that get my humor.

This thread is right on track for these threads. We are on page four and have had our excursion into gun rights.

The leveler heads about now will say that the problem is the people on both sides of the issue who refuse to see the other side at all. And that *is* the bottom line.

This time though, at the risk of adding to the agitation I'm going to give my personal feelings.

I see knives as tools only. I carry more acceptable knives (usually) to try to get more people to feel that way. I absolutely hate the whole "self defense" thing.

Arguments could be made as to them not being good in that role, knife to a gunfight, club being better, yadda. But I don't want to go down *that* road either. It comes down to one thing only, people's rights.

My disagreement with that aspect of our hobby gives me no right to dictate other's behaviour. As a society we weigh costs and benefits and personal freedoms are not given nearly enough weight in this equation IMO. I do not see a large cost to our society in the whole "mall-ninja" gestalt. In many cases kids are just playing soldier, I did that.

'Why do you carry a knife?'

One of the most stupid and annoying questions I get asked. I'm sure other members get that one too..

Not even sure how to answer it anymore. And when I try to talk about my knife making and colle ting hobby they also go all weird.. Its better than collecting stamps ffs! Gah..

Some people just don't get it.

Well everyone collects something different. We just so happen to be in the awesome ring of the few that are "knife nuts" it's a very useful tool, weapon. I know this, my knife don't run out of ammo. generally most ppl don't have it them to use a gun if need be. I do, but the knife will do some close contact work if u know what I mean.

Couldn't agree more. People find out how many knives/guns I have (and it's far less impressive than many here) and they think I'm some kind of wannabe serial killer or something. I collect things I like. People act like I'm stockpiling weapons of mass destruction meanwhile these very same people (one of the people who criticized me) have 22 cats and dogs in a 2 bedroom house. I think that's weird as shit but I believe to each their own. Another collects cars. I don't say "Oh well why do you need so many cars when you only need one?" Which is what they said to me about guns and knives. It's true. Some people just don't get it. And as much as I try to ignore it, it still chaps my ass when I hear people say things like this. I don't criticize or judge your phillatilling (or whatever the word for stamp collecting is) so leave me and my collection alone.

Lmfao! !!!!! :D:D:D:D:D

Sad part is, some of the same people that are afraid of knives, own and shoot firearms. It's perfectly normal to be afraid of everything you don't know about, right? lol

Oops double

That's like one of the nature freaks that thinks he can barter his way out of a clan stealing his farm and home, like the episode of preppers. The hippie guy lol :D
Not to mention, even if it were true, they are most likely including suicides and domestic violence in those stats, throwing the whole thing off completely. The other day I had to listen to my art major libtard teacher tell me that protecting yourself with a gun is a "joke" and that you are more likely to kill yourself or a family member with it, citing these stats as evidence..... Duh. There's more domestic violence and suicides than successful (and reported) home invasion defense cases. That doesn't mean guns can't protect you effectively......

But let's stay on topic and not get too political...... Hmmmm. maybe it's a bit too late :p

Ok elaborate on the term ninjas... enlighten me please, and I live in Tennessee. As of 6-01-2014 we are legal to carry (in public) any knife action or size. U should see the looks I get with my buck 119 on my side. We goin bear hunting, who are u mad at. Etc Etc. I call it my Apple peeler :)

Man it is nice to live in a rural town in Idaho. Most people carry a knife in there pocket AND a multi tool on there belt, including myself....never been called out for having a knife, although last weekend I was selling produce in a town and a cantaloupe broke so I pulled out my bench made LFK with its huge frickin' blade to cut it up and eat it and an older lady behind me made an "oh no look at that I'm scared noise"

Too bad you all don't work where I work...everyone one of us carry at least one knife...in fact we are given a knife the day we start...we are given belt knives, 3" blade, and nearly all of us carry at least a folder of some sort.
I don't use the knife they give us as it is cheap piece of crap but most do.
My daily work carry is a HK Plan D which replaces the work knife, ZT770cf and SAK Super Tinker. The only negative comment I've received is "the knife cost what?"...funny thing is the person who said that was carrying his brand new $5.00 knife that he said was just as good as my BM585...at that time...he then flipped it open and the blade kept going past the stop and the pin holding it to the bolster/frame came out...The look on his face was priceless and just to rub it in I proceeded to flip my BM a few times before looking at him with a smug, condescending look slid the knife in my pocket and walked away humming a tune...awesome

I pay no attention to the sheeple but one persons comment in this thread is a winner...next time some moron says if I'm going to use it to kill someone I'm going to turn the table and ask them repeatedly if that thought runs through their head whenever they see a knife, if they have ever had thoughts of killing someone, perhaps they need help, perhaps I need to tell their supervisor or HR, perhaps I should call the police as they just made comments they have thoughts of hurting themself or others...see how those mother f'ers like it...
