How does that handle shape work?

which one? the sgian dubh? - Christian was here yesterday and liked it a lot, too. Rotte has 2 of them....

the little big knife? (3 inch shortfinger)- fat tubular arthritis proof handle. it's like holding onto a baseball bat (well, not really, it's only about 7/8 inch diameter)- but it's refreshing when my hands are feeling tired.

get a coote. unless you want real machine shop tables and angle guides and stuff, then I'd suggest KMG or the no-weld-grinder-plans.

Bandsaws are hard. I'm finding that if I'm fairly relaxed about going slow, my ridgid with the woodslicer blades and coolblocks does very good work for a 'cheap' bandsaw. I'd advise against the little tiny ryobi or whatever 3 wheel saws unless it's going to be profile cutting of thin materials- the bigger saws do MUCH better on resawing (making scales)

timeframe is- if you want one in particular, you can set the timeframe. I've got 4 blades heat treating this evening that are sgian dubhs, 2 are orders....2 aren't.

The Sgian Dubh's In the Heat Treating I Hope one has my name on It ! It's gonna Look Great with the "Famous Koyote Knive's Old School Rough Forged Finish" and Ipe Wood Scale's, I can see It already "I have a Vision ! And It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Sgian Dubh

hat's one of them, yeah- I am really looking forward to seeing the ipe on a sgian dubh.

The Coote is what I'm looking to get; it seems to be the best quality grinder for my budget. I've been looking for a metal cutting bandsaw for a loooooooooong time. I think I'm going to do what a lot of people are doing and mount the variable speed Dewalt vertically. I can get the Coote w/ platen, 10" wheel, and sanding disk and the band saw for a hair below my budget. There should be enough left over to get the Coote running and buy an assortment of belts and bimetal blades.

The handle I was referring to was the Sgian Dubh. I'm thinking I might want one, temper finish, single edge w/ partial false edge, w/ lignum scales, red liners and copper pins. I need to get my tools first, though.

mmmmhrmmmm. I just don't get the metal bandsaw thing myself. I'm sure I'd love it if I tried it, though. I just use a 4.5 inch angel grinder with cutoff wheels and a hacksaw. It's entirely possible. I'd really get into a metal cutting bandsaw, though. cutoff discs do get used up fairly quickly.

Cootes rock :)

It sure Is some Beautiful Wood, I'm sitting here looking at the Ipe Wood Scale's on the Modern Seax I got from you awhile back and under the light It's sure Is some Good Looking Wood, That's why I wanted Ipe on the whole Order I got In with you now, I'll have 4 Koyote Knive's all In Ipe Wood Scale's and them Knive's with the Bigger Blade's In Ipe are gonna be Sweet, I'll bet that Modern Seax with the 9" Blade Is gonna be a Great Chopper right along with It's 9" Blade'ed partner the BackWood's Tactical

I'm currently using an angle grinder w/ cut-off wheels. I'm pretty accurate with it, and it works good. I think, with a band saw I could not waste as much steel when cutting out the blanks. Plus, if I slip with the angle grinder, there is a good chance that I've gouged either the blank itself or some steel next to it that could be another blank.

OK, so I just stole this knife from the Knife Maker's For Sale area. It has been sitting out on the forum for over a month. I haven't even taken possession of it yet and I'm as happy as a pig in slop.

My question is, "why did this knife not sell more quickly"? To my eye it looks extremely useful, attractively proportioned, nicely finished, uses a very cool handle material, and I'm told it can be sharpened to an atom splitting edge. Why do y'all think it sat on the shelf for a month? Be honest, it may help Christof out, 'cuz I'm sure he's wondering the same as me.

I really liked it, but wanted something a bit smaller to compliment my model 1, but bigger than my pocket nessie. I loved that blade, and contemplated it for hours. So I went with a bird and trout, but I thought about that beauty quite a bit!!!! I was more than I have ever paid for a knife, which gave me pause, but then I ordered something even more expensive!! oops!

This one really caught my eye as soon as it went on the makers page for sale, it just came down to a lack of funds for me again !:(

I hear ya, when it first came up for sale I was feeling a bit strapped for cash too. The flap-top sheath also made me pause--I generally prefer an open, pouch type sheath. But Sierra does such great work I know I'll enjoy this one.

Most of Christof's Knive's Call my Name, But this one Is'nt my Style of Blade or Handle Material, I'm In the Market for Bigger Blade's with Beautiful Wood Scale's "More of the Traditional Old School Look" and I already have two on Order with Christof two Big Blade's that Is three counting my Sgian Dubh, If It would of had the Dark Forged Finish "Something I like In Koyote Custom's and In some Nice Eye Catching Wood Scale's" I might of grabbed It up, But I also pretty much had my Monthly Mad Money Spent ! But In Today's Unstable Economy Folk's are aint Buying a whole lot & most are selling,

here's a gaucho style knife I've been working on, and down at the bottom of the series you'll see SnakeDr.'s sgian dubh, a pocket drop point in bocote, and Erik's bushie.
