Some Ruger 10/22 changes

Do the newer models have "last shot hold open"? I got rid of mine for that one reason and went to a Marlin which I'm tricking up for a do-all survival rifle. just wondering.

Nope. There is a mod for it of course, but you also need to modify the magazines to make it work.

Like em, lots of fun and so accurate it's almost boring. I put the Volquartsen trigger group in mine, didn't change the mag and the bolt locks open after the last round. Changed the recoil buffer to neoprene.

10/22's are lots of fun. I have one that's stock except for the trigger job, bedding, and sight replacement. I also have this one. Its set up for 50 meter BR.

What a great gift!

LOVE my 10/22 - actually shot about 50 rounds today.

I have the same model - stainless - and its just one great rifle.

Over the weekend I put in a bolt buffer, automatic bolt release and extended mag release - best $50 Ive ever spent - TOTALLY worth it.

Also bought two of those tri-magazine clips that clip three of the standard ruger mags together - totally worth it! The aftermarket mags are just junk and always gave me a problem.

I went ahead and gave the "tactical" 10/22 a run (tapco stock, quad rail, foregrip), but wound up going back to the stock stock as the tactical was a bit much for the gun club (especially since it qualifies as illegal under the NY state assault rifle ban - pistol grip, telescoping stock and flash suppressor).

BTW, Rimfireforums.com is an AWESOME community with a rediculous amount of info on the 10/22. Great resource.

that is a cool looking gun Jake.. way to go Tina..:D i am loving my 10/22.. i recently picked up a bunch of ammo.. i'm stoked.. i need to take some pics soon...:)

You're right about the new 10/22s having plastic trigger groups. I actually wasn't going to say anything but since you broke the news first... They changed them about 8 months ago now. The entire trigger group is now plastic along with the barrel band AND mag release extension. I work for a Ruger dealer and I watched them transition out. Being the dummy I am I did not grab an old model or three before they were phased out. Now I'm stuck paying a buddy for a metal trigger group. I do however have one of the newer models and it is still very nice. They dont scratch like the old ones so they look a lot better longer but you just can't stone the sear quite like you used to be able to. My latest 10/22 has an adjustable tapco stock, 4 way rail system, laser, flashlight, muzzle break, red dot, tactical sling. Ya,ya,ya I know its a little bit mall ninja status but I've never done the tactical thing so I thought I'd give it a try. I'll try take some pics tomorrow.

Oh and the 10/22 magnum was mentioned earlier... It was discontinued years ago however IF you can find one for under $400 GRAB IT!!! They frequently go for $500-$700 now days because you can convert it to a 17 HMR for about $100 bucks. Very cool! Also someone said the normal 10/22 is $300 now, that is not true the base model goes for $200 at a good store and $240 for the stainless.

I love my 10/22. It started life as a blued with synthetic stock, it looked almost identical to yours but black instead of gray. Now it sits in an aluminum chassis with a red dot on top and is currently awaiting an 11.5"bbl which should be here by next weekend. Id like to get another one just like yours J W to keep box stock for woods bumming and plinking.

I think Munky88 is incorrect, there is no mod to do to the magazine, just to the bolt release. My mag release is also plastic, along with the barrel band.

Guns and ammo tv actually did a bit on the switch from metal to plastic trigger guard's and proved the they are tougher, or at least more impact resistant.

That IS a good looking gun. I've been looking at page after page of tricked out 10/22's on RF central, and I really prefer the simple ones. I've been saving for some time to buy myself a 10/22T that I'll shoot with subsonic ammo in the back yard. Thanks for keeping the flames of anticipation high!

Here's what mine will look like:

I went a little overboard with the "if you could only have one gun" idea.

Butler creek folding stock, Simmons 22mag scope, Power Custom hammer, sear, extractor, and buffer, paracord sling, TacInc barrel, SWR Warlock can, and a bolt lock from TomW on rimfirecentral. A fun gun for an afternoon of plinking and one I would trust my life with.

I said that. I was at a gun show last week, and every 10/22 there was 300bucks + or -.... My wife didnt pay that for mine, it was 249. However the gun show was a bit higher...

Im not concerned about the plastic trigger group. My 870 has a plastic trigger group, and hasnt given me an ounce of trouble. Time will tell.

A 10/ 17hmr would be flat awesome.

I like that tapco setup. Pretty sweet.

Here`s mine. It has the newer glow tube sights on it, along with a Leupold scope that`s probably worth more than the rifle. I traded a knife for the scope.

Heres a link to a story that explains the changeover to Polymer trigger housings.

http://gunblast.com/Ruger-1022.htm

It costs ruger the same to manufacture the polymer ones as it does the aluminum ones. It was done to make them more consistant as far as fit and finish, and to make the trigger pull the same on every rifle. I believe this, as Ive seen 10/22s that felt lighter from the factory.

Also, check out the drop test on the Trigger group. The Aluminum one broke at 4ft, the polymer did not. Interesting. However, in the age we live in, plastic aint plastic no more....

The hammer on the new ones are also bushingless, so I dont know how that will affect aftermarket hammer instalation...Hammer forged barrels too.
