Some Ruger 10/22 changes

I went a little overboard with the "if you could only have one gun" idea.

Butler creek folding stock, Simmons 22mag scope, Power Custom hammer, sear, extractor, and buffer, paracord sling, TacInc barrel, SWR Warlock can, and a bolt lock from TomW on rimfirecentral. A fun gun for an afternoon of plinking and one I would trust my life with.

Tell me about your stock. I saw one like that at Cabela's for a reasonable price, and thought it would make the rifle handier for stowing away and toting around for camping.

Thats a butler creek folding stock. Also available in stainless.

I like em. The stock locks in the open position very tightly with no wiggle(on the one I had), and it makes the rifle a very stowable size. The fit on the one I had was great. Dropped right in.

These are the ultimate "tinkerer's" .22! You can easily sink $1000 into one just playing around which is what makes them more fun than just their accuracy and reliability can. Our first, I cut 3/4" off the stock and installed a match trigger kit and red dot for my kids to shoot when they were younger. My youngest has just about outgrown it, so it will get a makeover soon...

Mine is just a plain old "big-box store" 10/22. Wood stock, blued barrel, no sling, no optics...I have been thinking about a sling though.

Rather than tricking it out, I think I am going to go with a Ruger SR-22, it has the 10/22 guts in a AR type platform.

Here is a photo from the review on gunblast.

I looks like you can pick them up for under $500, I have seen some prices as low as $450.

I got mine for the same reasons and I love it. The only change I had to make was adding a split piece of aquarium tubing to the metal portion of the stock being held on by electrical tape. It only took one time of trying to shoot in sub-freezing weather to discover this mod was needed.

:thumbup:I've got 2 of these ! One is the Carbine & the other is the Sporter. Both are blue / wood . Both have trigger jobs & bolt release mods. on the Carbine I use my butlercreek 25rnd banana clips & iron sights. The sporter has the pretty checkerd walnut stock w/ bushnel 3x9x40 rimfire scope & a sling.
As far as accuracy they both do very good but my Savage 64FV(semi auto .22LR w/heavy barrel) will out shoot either one;) The Savage has had trigger work also. Love to shoot .22's !

Here's mine, enjoy!
First, Butler Creek side folder, Burris 4x Compact scope, extended mag. release, nylon military sling

Weaver V9 Classic 3-9 x38mm just received today. To be used with the 10/22 & Mini 14 when I get the B-square adapter for the Mini. (It has the rings I need.)

My oldest brother bought me my 10/22 for Christmas when I was 13. He knew I had been drooling over it all year. He did the "Christmas Story" thing where he hid it behind the couch and pointed it out after all the other presents had been opened. 13 years old with my own 10/22 - heaven.

I still have it, it shoots as good as ever, and I'm now 36. I added a folding stock when I was about 15, but other than that I haven't had to do anything to it. It cost $119.00 at the time.

I have had a bunch of 10/22s over the years and really like them. In general I think Ruger is hard to beat for the $$. I gave my last wood stock model to buddy's son and almost immediately another pal gave me this one as part of a trade... I haven't got use to the stock yet, but a 10/22 is a 10/22...

Very nice! I need a 10/22, don't own one. I'm pretty in love with my Savage MkII bolt gun to be honest!

I like the simplicity and rugged exterior on your rifle though, Jake. Nice.

I think Munky88 is incorrect, there is no mod to do to the magazine, just to the bolt release. My mag release is also plastic, along with the barrel band.

Guns and ammo tv actually did a bit on the switch from metal to plastic trigger guard's and proved the they are tougher, or at least more impact resistant.

Can I get metal aftermarket replacements for these parts?

Can anyone recommend a good but inexpensive peep sight set for the 10/22? Mine is 20 years old and as good as new. My eyes are 20 years older and . . . aren't. ;)
