Some SAK love

My old ribbed 2 blade cadet at a lake in Switzerland on a motorbike road trip some years ago.
This is what we would call taking Coal to Newcastle in England.

I love the photo it brings back memory’s and is a bit atmospheric.
Stupidly I sold it and regret it,they aren’t easy to find.

Newcastle Upon Tyne in England was the UK's first coal exporting port and has been well-known as a coal mining centre since the Middle Ages, although the trade is much diminished in recent years.

'Carrying coal to Newcastle' has long been used in the UK as an archetypically pointless activity - there being more than enough coal in Newcastle already.

Other countries have similar phrases; in German it's 'taking owls to Athens' (the inhabitants of Athens already being thought to have sufficient wisdom). 'Selling snow to Eskimos' or 'selling sand to Arabs' are similar phrases, although they refer to things that are difficult to achieve, that is, requiring of superb sales skills.

I always have a old Alox Soldier with me Vic or Wenger I don't mind,I like the red shields and the WK stamp and knowing it has history.

In and around the house one is always in my trouser pocket,on my motorbike one is always in my jacket pocket,I usually carry a larger slip joint to compliment it.

Using the SAK blade for cutting fuel line or other mucky stuff and the slippy for food use.

Without doubt the awl is used the most I sharpened it a little, its done everything from scrape glue of my handlebar grips to making holes to start screws.

The can opener straight Philips is a very good screwdriver, surprisingly so,the large flat blade driver also gets used

Oh and that olive bread was absolutely delicious.

An Ambassador is currently in my pocket but I carried a fixed blade and this 84 mm Walker a couple days ago on a short woods jaunt, just in case I needed a smaller blade, an opener or it's saw.

Didn't use it... but I was ready! :)

So lost interest a bit last year and got rid of some my small SAK collection. Listed my DAK KM (Koninklijke Marine) but it didn’t sell at my price so I kept it. Fast forward and I was able to add a DAK KL (Koninklijke Landmacht) in a matching 87 year…so that worked out.

I bought that model for the same reasons.

That's some good thinkin' Johnny.
For years I carried a Huntsman on my walks but seein' that the Walker is so compact and is about the least expensive Victorinox, I thought I'd give it a try. Seems it was still more than I needed  but very glad to have it with me.

I sent this one back to Switzerland for a sympathetic clean up in the vintage section,I wanted to keep it original as possible.
I can open the Blade and awl relatively easy even with my poor grip the other 2 tools are killers, the old folk must have been a lot tougher than us.
It has a lovely balance in the hand and the blade is excellent.

I dont know what I have done with the pictures seem to be attachments.
