Some SAK love

Victorinox SAK 1977 one of my favourites, in my pocket around the house.

I use the awl a lot, today it was making pilot holes for screws in my back gate.

Original Britool spanners are as good as any make and still going strong, I had them from new must be 35 years now.

The mines sign is one of a massive batch I took into Mostar when it was one of the most dangerous places to go,particulary in a big white UN truck.

This just landed,it would have been cheaper and easier to buy a new one.but I like the old pattern Explorer (I have a NOS old un already..
I could send it in to Vic to repair, but they might replace it with a new one I don't want that.

1,longer Philips
2,screwed scissors
3,fluted corkscrew
4,no daft tools on the back
5,better magnifier.

Any way the add said stuck tools, they weren't kidding the worst I've ever encountered.
So far I have got some movement,I find breaking the back spring so you can get WD40 in helps.
Leaving it to soak for a while so I can get a cup of tea.

This Alpineer's seen some good pocket time and is enjoying retirement at the moment. It has the old slide lock, and only an added corkscrew.

I just had another go its the hardest one I've done yet, all but two tools are loose though they are better.
It is very clean looking now,I will also cut off the key ring loop and try and straighten the small blade.
I am no expert but I enjoy trying to fix things like these.

First thing this morning.

Well this is my first failure at cleaning up a SAK,.

No matter I have 2 explorers already and I enjoy doing this sort of thing, plus I got to use some great tools.

I have loosened some blades some have no snap,to me its not fully usable.

I did manage to straighten the small blade,I also removed the split ring loop quite pleased how that went.

On Monday I will look into sending it back to Victorinox, they have more experience than me!

The Champion, I prefer this to the Swiss Champ with a great tool set.

Seven-layer Models
The most significant change to the Champion was the introduction of a new tool layer in 1973, consisting of a magnifying glass and the in-line Phillips screwdriver.
This model is referred to as the 'Champion c' in the SAKWiki layer pages, and Related Tools sections.
