Somebody talk me out of a Sebenza

Maybe you shouldn’t let strangers talk you into or out of anything. Maybe you should put it on the back burner for awhile, and digest what’s been written here, then make up your own mind.

I feel like as a knife enthusiast I have an obligation to myself to have a Sebenza in the collection. I dont question that it's a very well built knife and has beautiful aesthetics. But for that hefty price tag what am I really getting that I dont already have in my other knives? I have titanium framelocks and plenty of S35VN. Is it the knife itself as a whole that warrants such a price or is it the name engraved on it?

I'm gonna be putting a NIB Large Sebenza 21 with a Timascus clip for sale on the exchange whenever I can start posting there. just sayin.;)

You'll need a gold membership in order to sell on the Exchange. Otherwise, welcome!

Ooohhhh didn't know that. Thought it was like most other forums where you just have to make X amount of comments. Oh well. Really want to find my Sebenza a new home, so I'll definitely look into getting a gold membership. Thanks for the info.

Ok, Ill try properly this time.

Sebenzas are NOT the ultimate knife. They are really damn good, and they really work well, but there is better out there.

They way I deal with stuff like this is MVP, Minimum Viable Product.

Take a sebenza, $600. Find a knife with similar features for maybe 30% of that price and get that. See how it feels. Then if you decide you still want a sebenza, wait until you can find it for 30% off and buy.

That being said, What is the reason you're looking at a sebenza? Is it quality of fit and finish? Smoothness? the name?

edit: I just realized this post reads like a sleep deprived 12 year old's rantings... Only half of that is true right now, your guess which. :p

I like the way the plain sebenza looks, I like a clean looking well built knife. I've never held one so I take the smoothness on everyone's word. The fact it has CR name on it is pretty low on the want factor. Take Hinderer for example, big name but 90% of his designs are ugly as sin imo

None of us are buying knives non stop because we can't find one that cuts well, we do it cos it's a hobby and we love it, just get what calls to you, it's going to happen eventually. End up not liking it? sell it and keep buying more knives you like

Or maybe try not being a clone-supporting scumbag? That's always an option too.

Lol. Nobody expects the Spanish inquisition but the Morality Inquisition is quite predictable. Better to be a "clone-supporting scumbag" than a hypocritical, self-righteous, prick, scumbag. And btw the Sanrenmu is not a clone. It may be inspired by it but not the same.

Nope, people who buy clones are supporting scumbags who are stealing designs. Shall we have a mod come have a look at your comment? :)

Heh, yeah, let's have a mod come look at your comment.

NO PLEASE!!!! Anything but the mods!! Please!!! I'll confess!

Nope. Believe that if you want. They are great quality knives. I have a few :). There, I confessed. lol

No, they objectively aren't. Also, try to stay on topic. An answer of "Don't buy a Sebenza, buy this clone made of trash pot metal instead" is a poor argument.

Nope. One is an overpriced waste of $450 that will likely hardly be used because he, wisely, is concerned the knife could be lost or stolen. The other is a 15 dollar knife that is well built and has good quality even if you refuse to admit it.

Quality is not the issue. Theft that harms our hobby is the issue. (One of them).
Screw Sanrenmu.

Screw China.
