Someone at the post office now has a nice Busse knife...

Actually, registered mail is the most secure. They use special tape to insure no tampering with the package, and the package has to be signed in and out of secured storage so they literally have a trail of everyone in the chain that has had access to the package. Registered mail is what a lot of jewelers use.

That's true and you can get it held at the PO so you can pick it up.

I have have very good luck over the years with Priority Mail using their Boxes etc though.

No, I emailed him yesterday as soon as I got the PO notice, haven't heard back from him.

If the knife was in a sheath to start with I don't see how it could possibly get out of the shipping box. It certainly would'nt have cut through the shipping box. Unless it was crushed, ripped, torn or not packaged properly. I'm not sure how they unload or treat this type of package. But I used to work on a dock, loading and unloading freight and have seen packages and freight get damaged and smashed. So anythings possible when it comes to moving freight, packages, parcels ect.ect. I just hope things work out for the better for you 230. D,

You are correct, of course. I should have said Registered.

I'm not going to say "the seller packed it poorly" until I go and check out the actual package. I'm just going to have the policy of the other person shipping first from now on with trades, because no he's going to have his knife, and i'm going to have a possible check from the PO in god knows how long.

I made a trade on a knife while ago. The guy swore that he shipped his end but kept changing the date when he swore it was shipped by. After over a year of playing games with this guy his wife now says he is dead and to not ever ask her about it again. If he did actually die, I am sorry for her loss but the way she and he have behaved I really do not know if I believe them. The only 'change' I could do from that experience was to insist that people I traded with had many good feedback posts on this forum.

I really hope this works out well for you. Did you find out that the person did indeed ship it with insurance?

That sucks about your knife. I hope it was insured and you get your money. I didn't have any luck getting my money from the post office on 2 items that were broke and lost a few years ago.

Sorry for your experience - I have held my breath in the past waiting for a package - I hope it turns out good for you in the end.

Well, over 600 bucks in sheaths, insured, and a brick wall around every corner, they will fight you on every front. DONT give up! DONT let them win! You will win out eventually especially if the sender insured the package.

Dont despair, and dont give up, fight fight fight. Even if the post office workers cringe when you walk in the door. Mine do, they hate when they see me coming but they realize I am in the right.

Wow. Thats really sad that the Postal make such things a nightmare.

I know that in NZ if you file a claim they might spend a few weeks tracking it down.. Mostly because they want to find out which postal worker is the offender. but insured is insured and normally they will payout.

I'm in the habit now of taking photos of the items, or even a video of the wrapping it up if its expensive, just so there is no argument about content if it goes missing.

Sorry to hear such a nice blade went astray.

Hello,

I am the "other guy" who sent the knife to 230 grains. I have replied to the emails and will get all over this issue on tuesday when the PO opens up. I did send it with insurance but it sounds like that is almost a waste. This is very terrible and I will do all I can to ensure that the PO does the right thing. This is a very informative thread, and scary at the same time.

The way I sent the knife was in a bubble padded envelope with the knife in a kydex sheath with the extra leather one included. I have sent and recieved several knives this way before and never had any issues until now. If any one has any advise on what I can do from my end to make certain 230grains gets his sarsquatch, I am open to them.

Thanks,

JT

Good on you JT!!!

I've been thru the process of a USPS claim once. It took about 5 months to get my claim paid. They didn't give much resistance, even though they said they had a signed copy of acceptance. I never signed anything for it BTW, and asked them to produce the signed slip proving I received and sign for the package. After they could not come up with the signature slip... it was just a matter of filing forms and waiting for the $$$.

Good luck!

Don't use 'bubble padded envelopes' for anything.:eek::eek:

I've had them torn open just from being put into my mailbox. Not a good way to ship a knife.

I went to the PO today to retrieve the package.

It was mailed in a VERY thin bubble mailer and you can see where the knife had punched right out of it. It does not look to be tampered with. Honestly, I can tear the mailer with my finger nail, I can see how the knife worked its way out of it. If I didn't want to have the mailer remain intact I would film myself tearing it up with ease and poking holes in it with my fingers.

I don't know where you guys stand, but if the situation where reversed, I would send the knife back and I would deal with the PO insurance situation as the shipper.

I can only hope it works out that way.
