Someone at the post office now has a nice Busse knife...

A bubble envelope? That's really bad. That's not how you ship something like this...

JT, I really think the fair thing to do would be to undo the deal and handle the claim with the post office yourself. This situation was created by the poor packaging.

Sorry about your loss, 230...

Just a comment regarding the bubble mailer...don't use 'em!

The USPS Priority Mail boxes are FREE (you can even have them delivered to your door FREE). They are strong, sturdy and I've never had a problem with them.

Plus, if you print and pay for your postage online (which is cheaper and faster than waiting in line at the PO - and FREE delivery confirmation) you can schedule them to come to you and pick up the package FREE.

You might be able to use a bubble mailer on a Cold Steel knife...but a Busse?
I'm surprised we don't have to use Kryptonite or Titanium.

I wouldn't use a bubble mailer on any knife unless it was a folder, then I would use the ones USPS provide. I like boxes much better though.

Bubble mail = bad form indeed.

I use the USPS boxes, sized big enough that I can surround the knife with plastic peanuts or air bags or newspaper or something soft. Knives sold without sheaths have to be in a cardboard sheath, and I've starting wrapping in paper and Saran wrapping similar to the way Busse sends them. I tape the box like I expect someone to try and break into it. Basically, i try to keep an honest man honest.

Not to be another person ganging up on the shipper, but I totally agree. Bubble Mailer = Shippers Fault Entirely. I also agree the money should be refunded by the shipper and the claim handled by him alone. Making the buyer wait for the Post Office to pony up when it was the shippers packing that caused it, well that's just bad form.

Hope all of this gets straightened out.

Best, Les.

+1 ON That Brother, Hope it works out for you like it should 230. ;)

Bubble envelope for a big heavy busse = bad news. I use them for small folders because dont have a sharp edge and are inside a box inside the envelope. That being said, sounds like the package was opened to me :(

Well I asked for him to return my knife, he said it's not something he's willing to do BUT if I wait three weeks he will get me a new Sarsquatch and he will take responsibility for the insurance claim etc...Hopefully this works out.

That sounds reasonable if it works out.

I do not have an extra sarsquatch, but what I am going to do is shop for another one, buy it and send it to 230. This way we can complete the transaction, and 230 isn't waiting for the PO to cough up the money, nor will he be with out a great Busse knife. I felt this is a way that niether of us would get the shaft on this deal. I just wanted to make things 100%, in spite of a shipping faux pas.

That sounds great Jt, I'm sure 230 will be glad to get this ironed out. I was just hoping you had like a box of Sarquatch's, I kind'a like those too. :)

That's damn decent of you.

If the knife was in a sheath to start with I don't see how it could possibly get out of the shipping box. It certainly would'nt have cut through the shipping box. Unless it was crushed, ripped, torn or not packaged properly. I'm not sure how they unload or treat this type of package. But I used to work on a dock, loading and unloading freight and have seen packages and freight get damaged and smashed. D,

You'd be surprised what parcels go thru.
You have to "build a fortress" within the outer box to ensure it doesn't get "split" open by anyone or any machine. Tape-Tape-Tape-Tape every surface of the outside, especially the ends and that rip-cord on the USPS free boxes. Shipping a $$$ knife in a box that requires a simple "rip" to access without full exterior tape is a no-no.
Use free small USPS boxes on each inner end of the box. Fill the unused space inside with filler.
On inner-packing, you need to make it difficult to access the inside even if it cut open. Like a car thief who passes on a car with multiple deterrents....... Postal thief's will most likely pass up obviously well packed boxes.
USPS provided free boxes have the best chance of not being breached. They all look the same on the line and don't draw attention.

Duct tape is for sealing duct work air leaks and repairing chrome bumpers in Wisconsin

Brown tape (used in warehouses) is for bulk shipments sent on pallets between suppliers.

Clear Packaging Tape is for packages.

Use the correct tape for packages.

I have shipped and received hundreds of knives via USPS Priority or Express Mail and have never (cross my fingers) lost one yet. I always use the USPS provided boxes (unless the knife/knives don't fit, then I tape two together) bubble wrap a few layers around the knife, stuff paper around the knife tight inside the box and then run the clear packaging tape all around the end flaps several times. I also always use the large size boxes even if it is a small folder or fixed blade, as the large box is harder to loose and you can pack alot of cushion inside.

I had to laugh one time while at the Post Office, a woman struggled to get a package up to the counter because it was large and heavy. The Postman took it and sat it on its side on the scale to weigh it. The woman said in a painful voice "You can't set the package on its side, it has to have this side up, it is fragile!" The postman removed it and tossed it in the bin and said "That is probably the most careful treatment it will get in its journey." I thought she was going to pass out!!! You have to package items for the absolute worst case and just hope.

I hope it all works out for both of you.

I really appreciate you making this right for me, it's a stand up move.

I am currently shopping for a SARQ, so if anyone has a lead on one, by all means let me know.

Thanks,

JT

Awesome!

Try the WTB section. I'm sure there are lots of comp finish sarsquatches out there. The coated ones seem less abundant, but I hate the coated ones.
