Someone Explain it to me please.

I'm in the other camp, the PM2 and Military are fine knives but I find them too bulky in the pocket for what they provide (for their size they're light enough, and thin enough, but the wide handle and tall blade take up too much space). They're super comfy when open and in use, but totally bignormous in the pocket. These two knives have similar amounts of sharp stuff:

Conveniently Spyderco makes something for everyone though, and the Southard does it for me.

I'll admit that I've never given the PM or PM2 a second look because of the blade to grip size ratio. Besides looking like someone accidentally put the wrong blade in the handle, there are other smaller sized knives with the same or longer blade. The Endura, Stretch, Delica have a more balanced look to them.

I may give one a go some day. I'm sure it's a very well made knife.

I got mine in the mail yesterday and its really nice. I get it now. See, the thing is that no pictures online or videos do this knife any justice. It looks way bigger than it actually is. And it is a lot more solid than you would expect too. Once in hand you forget about blade handle ratio and just enjoy the solid lock up and slim sweeping blade. If you are skeptical about it I say just try it out and re sell if you are unhappy. It needs to be held in hand though to be appreciated. Not trying to buy into hype or anything, but you get a knife ($200 for mine) that performs just as good if not better than my umnumzaan which is twice the price.

Great ergonomics, great lock, great materials, very light for it's size, great blade shape overall, super smooth opening even for a Spyderco, oversized thumb hole feels a lot better to me than any other opening hole that's smaller, extra large lanyard hole for full 550 cord lanyards... I just can't think of anything NOT to like about the knife except for possibly the handle to blade ratio which doesn't bother me at all because it's got all the blade a folder really needs anyway in my opinion. I have never once felt like I needed more blade while carrying a PM2.

I have a Sebenza and the Seb definitely slices just a bit better, but the FFG on the Para2 is a better carver in my experience (I spent a day in the back yard doing yard work and cutting up trimmed branches about a week ago using a bunch of my knives) and has a much more comfortable handle to work with. I'd take a handle with little to no hot spots in my hand any day of the week over minimally better slicing, though. I do carry the Sebenza, but I carry the heck out of the PM2 as well.

I completely agree, even though some of my knives don't perform as well as others, I still carry them and use them for the joy of it and having variety. My umnumzaan and socom elite see more pocket time than anything else.

Perfection can be boring sometimes. I carried a Para 2 exclusively for a couple of years. They cut so well, and are so effortless and easy to open and close, somehow I got a little tired of it. I foolishly sold my my sprint and exclusive PM2s to fund other knife purchases. I've returned to the fold recently with 204P version and I'm really delighted with it. Yes, the handle is a little big for the amount of working edge you get, but it fits my hand beautifully--it's almost impossible to find an awkward or uncomfortable grip. Since getting my new one, I've carried nothing else and it continues to impress me with just how versatile and useful it really is.
