Richard,

That's an awesome thing to do. Thanks for offering that to the SAS folks. I am not one but I think that's a great gesture.

Merry Christmas!

You are a class act, sir.

I'll dig around and see if I can't find something I want REALLY sharp.

Thanks in advance, I'll get back with you!

I just read through the entire thread, Richard. THis is a very honorable thing for you to do! Alot fo guys might be surprised to know that most policemen, sheriff's deputies, highway patrolmen, firemen, ambulance crews, don;t have any idea how to properly sharpen their knives. If ever you are talking to a cop, and see a folder clip sticking out of his waistband or pocket, strike up a conversation, then eventually you'll get a chance to see a dull blade!! (Or, a very porrly sharpened blade). Don;t axe me how I know this! ((( :D )))

Chances are, it'll be a CS or maybe a red class BM, or alot of times a Spydie. He'll hand it to you like you're a novice and say "Careful there. It's sharp". You'll smile and whistle and say "Man. Sure is!" But all the while you'll be thinking ("Good thing you're carrying a gun there bud. You couldn;t even cut yourself with that thing, even if you tried! Let alone a seatbelt"). See, they think their knives are sharp, but when they get one of Richard's jobs, it's a whole new world for them.

Oh they're out there, these scary sharp police sharpeners, but I dont think I've ever met one.....If I did, I didn;t get a chance to see his knife.

Good on you Richard. Very classy......... Merry Christmas :)

every officer and emt here in town know to flag me down or stop by the house if they need something sharpened. one day an officer stopped by to get his knife sharpened again since he it was extremely dull. i told him to have a seat for a couple minutes and talk to dad while i put an edge back on it. he had to go on a call so he came back later. when he came in and checked out the knife, dad started to warn him the knife was sharp but it was too late. he had cut his finger but luckily it wasnt bad. he just touched the blade by accident.

pretty nice of you rick. tell us about your most challenging one when you get it@!

i havent found a knife yet that gave me problems sharpening. some can be hard due to the shape but not from the steel being too hard. the ulu in the picture at this link is made from a tool steel slitting saw for a horizontal mill. you can shave steel with it.
