Sons of bit**es

Man I am so sad to hear this, but grateful your daughter and attitude are all OK. I agree with everyone else that the pawn shops are a good start. As far as replacing shrubbery, I have no idea what grows where you are. It may be too cold, but here is what I did. I set up an "impenetratable" defensive perimiter around the house. I planted a TON of Euphorbia Splendens all the way around the house. It is a nice bush with pretty flowers and a nasty bite. I wanted a defensive permiter that didn't look defensive from afar. People start wondering what you have that is so valuable to protect if the defenses are too obvious. I also planted Pyracantha coccinea in with it and Bougainvilela in front of the bathroom windows. It actually is very attractive to look at. I just bought a super duper nasty shrub for planting along the road. I buy one at a time as money is available. I cant remember the correct name, but I have heard it called monkey puzzle. It is not the same as the evergreen tree with the same name however. I then planted more attractive plants out from these to soften things. Just some helpful tips from a friend - Merry Christmas.

Acetaline - thanks for the tip. I had to look em up but both look like they would deter without making my house look like a fortress. My wife likes the first one , Crown of Thorns but I like the second "Fire Thorn" - seems to be almost hassle free.

I really appreciate everything y'all have offered. It helps to know that people care and are willing to offer advice and camaraderie when life takes a turn for the crapper. :D

yeah main thing family is safe. effin people man.... that really makes me angry. sorry to hear.

I just got a little info from my neighbour. She saw a black Ford Econoline van parked in front of my house Sat morning and described 2 people that were in it. Male & female in their late 20's to mid-30's. No plate or anything but at least its something. I'll have to pass it on the the detective assigned our case. Who knows maybe they will get caught!

It could be a long shot but check with car rental companies around and see if the rent out vans like that.

That is just awful - really, really sorry to hear that. I appreciate the small upside of the story - that the shrub met its match with a sweet Becker.

I hope you guys still had an enjoyable Christmas under the circumstances.

Christmas was great! Everyone got to my mom's on time, despite the weather, and commenced to eat drink ( iced tea & diet coke, we're kinda boring) and be merry. We got about 4-5" of snow and had a monster snowball fight. Snow angels were made but no snow man - too cold. Ya, we're not too good with temps below 40. :D
By the time we headed home, the roads were pretty icey but we got REALLY LUCKY. When I pulled on to the highway there was a sand truck about 100 yds in front of us so I just followed him almost all the way back to Dallas. A really nice Christmas except that my mom (74y.o.)still refuses to sit down and eat until everyone else has finished. I did manage to get her to split a slice o cake with me and we had coffee of course.
Not too shabby I'd say. :D

Glad you had a merry Christmas Bro and Hopefully they catch the guys, it may take months but maybe they will be caught eventually, way to not let someting like this bring you down, as being a victim of the same thing myself I can say i was not in as good of spirits as you are , so kudos to you my friend. It does sound like someone that knows you, or at least has been watching your routine for a couple of days/weeks to know when you weren't gonna be home...

Since we are talking about burglary, I just found an interesting statistic that people might be interested in...

In the US with our high rate of firearm ownership, only 9% of burglaries occur when someone is home. In the UK, 41% of burglaries occur with someone home.

Crazy!

I'm also a fan of having at least two large dogs in the house. Preferably German Shepherds.

if you know your neighbors well enough, a door to door wouldn't hurt, give them a knock, let them know what happened, highlights on what was took, in case they should have a kid that suddenly "got a PS3" or something in the last week "from a buddy" ;)

friend of mine did that right after his car was broken into. one of the people said "uhm, just a sec", and came back with a box of cds the kid "found". on his bed were a lot of OTHER things he found. the big tip off was the jacket the kid left in my friend's car. yah, "that's his"... oops ;)

wouldn't hurt to also look for a black van in your area. you probably already thought of that one

asking the cops for a progress report every week for a couple months couldn't hurt ;)

Thanks Bladite! I've been working on the neighbours but other than the lady next door not much help. The police don't seem to have enough time or resources to return my calls. So, I'm not sure how that is going to play out.

keep looking for your stuff on craigslist - better yet - use searchtempest with a radius of 300 miles :)

guy i know had his custom high end $$$$ Ti bike stolen, found it being second hand sold via a guy who knew a guy on craigslist. the police met him for a "buy". dude that sold it said some guy sold it to him for $35 in a parking lot "never saw him before", but he knew it was worth at least $70 so was going to flip it ;) police were "not impressed". bike was ridden home ;)

I'm willing to bet it's someone that knows you, or your routine, and they more than likely have a nasty drug habit too.
