My personal 'sour' first experience with Arizona Custom Knives.
As most knife people familiar with the web site know, many 'pre-owned' knives both custom and production are offered for sale via consignment.
The photography/photos of the knifes are professionally done in house and are generally clear with two views per knife offered.
I purchased a well known brand of knife made in and designed in Germany.
The knife was "pre-owned", and the description stated it was in excellent condition and came with the original case with orig. paperwork/certificate.
There was no mention of anything wrong with the knife or missing anything.
Being extremely familiar with the particular model, I knew the blade deploys/opens by using a 'Thumb Disc', when I looked at the photo
there clearly was no 'thumb disc' on the top of the blade... and the blade was designed without a 'nail nic'.
I then wrote and asked: "this knife/blade is supposed to have a thumb disc, I don't see it... do you have it?"
Someone wrote back and said "no, we don't have it, no thumb disc included" (not mentioned in description).
I then wrote to Germany, directly to the designer of the knife and asked if I could purchase a 'thumb disc',
the designer and CEO of the company replied back to me saying: "I'll send one to you free of charge"... 7 days later I received TWO
in the mail along with spare screws and a few miscellaneous patches.
I then negotiated a lower price with Arizona Custom Knives based on the missing 'thumb disc' and then purchased the knife.
Knife arrived, I added the thumb disc, then on close inspection of the knife discovered that the lock up was unquestionably faulty with
a terrible amount of loose clicking play.
I then made a 60 second video showing how bad the problem was (clearly showing the terribly loose and clicking lock up) and sent the video to both Arizona Custom Knives and as well to the designer/owner of the company that made the knife.
From AZCK, their reply and attitude was "Oh, that's the way those knives (with a back lock) are supposed to be".
AZCK return policy: "Returns are subject to a 10% restocking and credit card processing fee."
From the designer/owner of the knife company: "please send the knife to our U.S. rep. to be looked at".... two weeks later I had a completely brand NEW knife sent to me... with a lock up as SOLID and TIGHT as the Brooklyn Bridge.
The lock up was without question, faulty.
Offering a knife for sale with with no mention of a missing integral part (thumb disc), plus an abysmally loose faulty lock up (never checking it?) is the deciding factor to never give Arizona Custom Knives my business again.
