My personal 'sour' first experience with Arizona Custom Knives.
As most knife people familiar with the web site know, many 'pre-owned' knives both custom and production are offered for sale via consignment.
The photography/photos of the knifes are professionally done in house and are generally clear with two views per knife offered.

I purchased a well known brand of knife made in and designed in Germany.
The knife was "pre-owned", and the description stated it was in excellent condition and came with the original case with orig. paperwork/certificate.
There was no mention of anything wrong with the knife or missing anything.

Being extremely familiar with the particular model, I knew the blade deploys/opens by using a 'Thumb Disc', when I looked at the photo
there clearly was no 'thumb disc' on the top of the blade... and the blade was designed without a 'nail nic'.
I then wrote and asked: "this knife/blade is supposed to have a thumb disc, I don't see it... do you have it?"
Someone wrote back and said "no, we don't have it, no thumb disc included" (not mentioned in description).

I then wrote to Germany, directly to the designer of the knife and asked if I could purchase a 'thumb disc',
the designer and CEO of the company replied back to me saying: "I'll send one to you free of charge"... 7 days later I received TWO
in the mail along with spare screws and a few miscellaneous patches.

I then negotiated a lower price with Arizona Custom Knives based on the missing 'thumb disc' and then purchased the knife.
Knife arrived, I added the thumb disc, then on close inspection of the knife discovered that the lock up was unquestionably faulty with
a terrible amount of loose clicking play.
I then made a 60 second video showing how bad the problem was (clearly showing the terribly loose and clicking lock up) and sent the video to both Arizona Custom Knives and as well to the designer/owner of the company that made the knife.

From AZCK, their reply and attitude was "Oh, that's the way those knives (with a back lock) are supposed to be".
AZCK return policy: "Returns are subject to a 10% restocking and credit card processing fee."
From the designer/owner of the knife company: "please send the knife to our U.S. rep. to be looked at".... two weeks later I had a completely brand NEW knife sent to me... with a lock up as SOLID and TIGHT as the Brooklyn Bridge.
The lock up was without question, faulty.

Offering a knife for sale with with no mention of a missing integral part (thumb disc), plus an abysmally loose faulty lock up (never checking it?) is the deciding factor to never give Arizona Custom Knives my business again.

Wow, that sucks. I check their new arrivals all the time. I'm glad you shared your experience with us. I have never done business with them and will be extremely cautious if I ever do. Thanks!!

That was my own experience, of course that doesn't mean it will happen to you or anyone else, but since this forum exists (The Good, The Bad, The Ugly!), I posted my (first) experience with the web site.
I really didn't like the response I received back, really left a bad taste in my mouth.

I don't blame you. They should have delivered a mechanically sound knife. Who was the knife maker?

P.F. Bravo One (D2)
No longer produced.

This was the new replacement Ditmar Pohl sent me.... lock up 'solid' as a California Redwood tree.

I've got the same knife. Lock up should be rock solid on those models. Period. AKCK either don't know what they're talking about or tried to get away with selling a faulty knife.

I've also communicated directly with Dietmar Pohl in Germany via email and Facebook. He's a stand-up guy who always replys to his customers and he cares about customer service. Great company.

I could see where you'd need the thumb disc to properly deploy that bad boy. I think every knife worth its weight should have a solid lock up and who ever says otherwise is full of "scheisse".

By the way, I think it's awesome that Pohl Force sent you the same discontinued knife (D2 vs. 440C) instead of the newer model

Very interesting news about ACK.
Had considered dealing with them, not a chance now.

Thanks, chambelona59 !

I agree, I think it's a perfect size and I prefer it with D2.
That's a stellar example of true customer service... first, Mr. Pohl sent me not just 'one' replacement thumb disc but TWO.
Then after I received the knife in such a disappointing condition.... Mr. Pohl sent me a completely new knife via his U.S. dealer, with a signed, dated, numbered certificate for the knife.

Again, that was just my experience dealing with ACK, someone else may have better luck.

small note,

they where sold with out thumb disk,
to make theme German legal ( no one hand openers allowed )

Mr. Phol is outstanding

Isn't that a entirely different version called the Bravo 2 Outdoor? That one doesn't have the threaded hole in the spine to fit a thumbstud.

Model = Bravo One 'Survival', absolutely does come with a thumb disc, your confusing it with the 'Outdoor' model, which is different.

No comment on this particular experience, but I can share that I have at least a dozen knives from Arizona Custom Knives since Julie took over several years ago.

They have stuff that others may not have = good.
Their "quality control" in terms of nicks, scuffs, action and completeness is erratic. I have had to return at least 4 knives to them for blatant oversights in quality for customs that were not identifiable in the photos.

At least their packing procedures have improved over the years, in the beginning, they just used to throw knives and empty boxes and ship them that way, resulting in scuffing.

Overall, not the best, not the worst, sometimes the only.

I also had a bad experience with ACK. I purchased a burnley that was supposed to be in "new" condition. Upon receiving the knife, one of the screws that held the cf scale was too long and came thru where the blade sits almost making contact. I've since sent it to Lucas to get repaired but you can't tell me that wasnt noticed.

Well you can't know for sure that they did notice it, and just decided not to mention it. Maybe they did notice but didn't think it was an issue?? Who knows for sure, just commenting!

I've bought at least 6 or more knives from them and had an excellent experience all around. Everything came very quick (Canadian here!) and exactly as described. Communication was always quick and friendly. Anywho, I'll continue to buy from them based on my experiences, but everyone is certainly entitled to their opinion and choice of retailer!

Glad to here Pohl Force took care of you, +1 for them regardless

Thanks for letting me know we share a similar experience.
