SPAMarama!

Well it's been nigh on 50 years, Vince!! I bypassed it last time I shopped, but I keep thinkin' I want to try it again!?! Being on a low-salt diet (I don't mean to cuss!!:D) I gotta keep that in mind!!:)
I think they have a low sodium version, but I'm afraid to try it!

r8shell r8shell : thank you sincerely for initiating this thread, this must be most exhilarating of 2019!

Seen from this pond's side, it is the most fascinating topic about the New World since the Vallodolid's debate! (with more consequences I'd bet) :D:D
Chewing gum, Coke and nylon stockings (I rarely use any of these, but it's just me ;)) came with GIs to stay, but Spam never did it , we just had corned beef (called "singe"-monkey- by our soldiers when it was their primary food until the 60s) and Danish Ham (a mystery for me, never ever met someone getting some, maybe just for tourists en route to Spain ).

Fortunately there are many fine things to slice...:p

¡Salud y buen provecho!
Vince, very nice knife and plate! :D
Well done!

I have a friend from Mexico, another from Scandinavia, and I grew up eating kosher. We three used to sit around over snacks & beer and the conversation would go to the familiar topic. I call it: "The food I ate as a child is wonderful and the food you grew up with is weird and disgusting." :p

I tried the SPAM. I don't like it, but I don't judge anyone who does. Many of you guys might not care for a breakfast of pickled herring, but I know that it's the best thing next to a toasted bagel & cream cheese! :D:thumbsup:
Ma' used to have some soup and meat at breakfast. I tried but went back to good old buttered baguette and abricot jam!

I forgot to show my Spam slicer. I am embarrassed to say that I don't have a dedicated GEC for this purpose, but this CASE pre-war butcher is able to slice several blocks of Spam at a time for larger family groups. It has been re-handled in a nice zebrawood or something similar. Some of these old butchers, like this one, were made of thin slicy saw blade stock. PMs welcome.View attachment 1252588
A real time-saver, you don't have to open the can to get slices! :D ( Barman1 Barman1 : you did it before me  and :thumbsup::thumbsup: for muscadet!;))

I bought a can of the low sodium too. I'd be happy to send it on to Charlie, but probably isn't worth the postage. ;) I didn't much care for the regular, and I'm afraid the salt covers up the taste of the 'pork product' so I'm afraid to taste it.

All in good fun, and that ham covered in paprika? looks pretty good.
If it's "ham in a can" I call it spam! :D

Oh yes, great fun! In the picture it is lard-paprika, I have to order it (when available) in Strasbourg since there's no more Hungarian shop in Paris (can't believe that! :()And not in a can!:D
An ancient race of pigs with nice curly hairs, they can't stand to be indoor and make wonderful meat, ham and bacon (and lard, and sausages).

J'ai une faim de loup!

If you want the best Spam flavor, get some of the Tocino spam. For the unitiated, Tocino is essentially a sweet filipino bacon. The Tocino spam is actually not bad. It's hard to find unless you have a large filipino population where you live.

I forgot about Amazon. And it is on ebay, too.
Ebay Spam!
I'm sure it's just Spam but made me chuckle a little with the correlation of cheap knockoffs we've been subjected to around here over the years.

Speaking of knockoff Spam, I found a recipe I might try if this thread maintains its traction.

Tocino is the Spanish word for bacon. I plan to try different flavours. No one else in my family eats it (except one son that's moved out), so a can lasts me a few days.

I'm the only who eats it in my house as well Vince, strangely enough they have the Tocino version on the big river site;) the recipe on the back of the can sounds quite delicious:)

OK, let’s face it, if you are from Texas and over 50, SPAM is in your blood.

My Jewish daughter and I love toasted bagels, a big shmear of cream cheese and a couple of slices of fried SPAM in between.
I do the same with rye toast though, and jam.
The sweet jam adds a nice balance to the salt in the Spam.
Dang, now I went and made myself hungry at 1AM.:(
SpamJam, that's gotta be a thing right?
Or JamSpam....I don't want to be invited to that shindig.:eek:o_O
