Spark crossed a line

Post sober.

Here we see a simple question and a straightforward answer.

"Did you do XYZ?"

"Yes, I did XYZ. Here's why..."

If there could be more straightforward answers to simple questions, that other thread would have been about 4 posts long.

I agree wholeheartedly!

BUT, subjectivity is a funny thing. I'm going to put a post up tomorrow that will be totally tongue in cheek.... but hopefully will make my point.

Spark believes he is doing the right thing here. You can not fault a man for that. As long as it comes from pure intentions.

But there are grey areas to this too.

Fred Phelps believes he is doing the right thing too.

p.s. To our resident misogynist, Tamishigiri, sorry if my "stalkery talk" comment offended you........ Lance.

ETA: Mr. Cougar? WHAT is the story behind that reptile/toady looking picture? Honest to god I woke up at 3:00 this morning with a picture of that creature in my head! Red nostrils and all! I did a "search" on it but didn't find any back-story. :)

Don't know who Fred Phelps is.

I am not Cougar, nor could I play him on TV.

He uses the snapping turtle picture as a warning to possible plank walkers of the USS BladeForums. IOW, you are getting your only warning that banning is imminent, or at least foreseeable.

Your loyalty to Mick is commendable, Michelle.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Those who have never looked the turtle in the face can't judge those who have....

In fast-moving threads like this it could be easy to miss messages from the moderators, so when I'm being moderatorial I use a turtle pic (I have several) or a pirate flag or something; it makes it a little easier to notice it's not just another post among so many others.

I have a new pic I've been thinking of using when I want to show that I'm watching a thread.... Is he a real secret squirrel, though? Or just an ordinary squirrel playing dress-up?

I don't know, but he is absolutely dashing and smashing at the same time! :)

All this reading makes me thirsty. Anyone want to join me for a beer at the Acropolis?

Mick Strider makes some of the best knives on the planet and treats people with dignity and respect. He does his very best to ensure the satisfaction of his gear. Why the hate? look at the time wasted.. some people ask why Mick doesn't Respond..HE'S BUSY MAKING QUALITY BLADES!

PS, Im in for a BEER.

I have been watching all of this with interest, and no I must comment on a few things.

Michelle; she is the administrator of the Badlands forum. That forum is owned by Mick Strider and Strider Knives. In other words, Michelle is an 'employee' of Mick Strider, and if she were to try to answer truthfully what Spark has presented, she'd be unemployed, and out of the club.

Lifter4him; used to be a well respected member here, but fell in with the green kool aid drinkers, and now is one of their leaders. Claims to be a 'Christian', but doesn't act like one. He also won't say anything bad about Strider, or he'll lose his status amongst the green kool aid drinkers and find himself on the outside. Anyone who dares not drink the kool aid gets banned and excommunicated. Lots of members here can attest to that. Oh, Dave, one more thing; a true Christian can be identified by his actions; how he treats his fellow man, and also how he upholds the teachings of the Bible. telling me you are a Christian is shallow; show me through your understanding of God's word.

Mick Strider; he will never come here and admit he is a liar. It was said that it would destroy his 'mystique', and I believe that is true. The green kool aid drinkers would then fall apart, and have no one to whorship, except Ernie Emerson, who doesn't need to lie to have a successful knife making business.

Oh yeah; if Dwyer is in fact a commissioned law Enforcement Officer, in most jurisdictions it is against policy and some laws for the LEO to associate with known felons, or ex felons. This is from a couple of close friends who are LEO's in the Pacific Northwest. I therefore question Dwyers credentials. Either he also isn't who he claims, or he doesn't give a damn about the laws/policies.

Spark; owns these forums, and can post whatever he wishes. He simply gathered up things that were posted all over the place and placed them in one, easy to read thread. Spark deserves to be commended for standing up for what he believes; none of the green kool aid drinkers can claim as much through this mess. Spark has some very strong supporters here, and I for one want to hear facts from Strider, or anyone else whao can actually refute what Spark has posted, with proof. I'm betting since the other side has been quiet, that the information Spark has presented is indeed factual.

As for the Strider Knives; no one has said a damn word against the knives themselves. They are a hard use, built like a brick sh*thouse knife that will get the job done. Overpriced? Maybe, but their price is reflective on what the market will bear. Mick and Duane have proven that they can make a damn good knife, that they stand behind their product, and have donated a bunch to our troops, LEO's and others, as well as supporting numerous charities.
All of the rest of the superflourous B.S. is not necessary to sell those knives, so they should come clean, let the chips fall where they may, and take it like real men.

Michelle, I am intrigued as to where is your Avatar is from? Is it Balinese, or Indian?

Great post Smegma.

I posted recently on an unrelated topic that the poster was all right with me because he stood up and admitted that he was wrong. IMO, that is what an honorable person does when it is found that the truth is something other than what is espoused.

Not that he needs it, or even cares, but Mick Strider would gain an immeasurable amount of respect from me if he stood up and admitted his mistakes. Imo, it would take some REAL balls to do that- much more than, say, it takes to offer to step outside with someone and beat his a$$. Or to insult someone who disagrees with you as if we're all still on the playground for recess.

After dissolving Sparks original post and suffering through this one, my thoughts;

If I started either one of these threads I would be flamed as "Troll of the Year".

83% of all product marketing is a LIE in some or another(do your really think we could "call out" the CEO of Procter & Gamble to explain/dissect the lies on their Diapers & Pringles and soaps etc.) Mick is probably no different.

While being in the armed forces is admirable, it is a job that people apply for, the draft is not here. The risk/reward ratio is terrible. Mick(if he did lie) is no different to me than a man who claimed he was an experienced special forces meatcutter at the local Safeway with years of experience and certified to be so, only to find out he stocked shelves in the cooler. Probably then all of the members in a meatcutters forum like BF would have their panties all up in a knot.

Seems like the participants here are pissed that the lie was perpetrated with the armed forces issues in gear more so than the fact it was a
lie/misrepresentation.

I missed the point of your post?
Was it, its ok to spin crap to sell things? and Mr Strider is getting harassed because of it?
Its late here I must have missed the gist of your post

I don't see any reason to drag Duane into any of this. From all perspectives Duane is a good and decent human being and in fact may be a large part of why Mick gets the respect he does. If there is one thing you can say about Mick Strider he does keep good company so give credit where credit is due.

STR, to be fair, I don't believe that DD's name would have been brought up here had not Lifter4Him mentioned an incident between DD and Spark in a silly attempt to discredit and demasculate Spark. To me it only seems reasonable that Spark would reply and offer a little more background info.

Striders supporters perhaps need to think about the nature of their "arguments". From where I stand, all this rabid irrationality does is open more doors and keeps the topic fresh.

I understand what you are saying. I just don't find reason to drag associates into this. Mick is not guilty by association with these folks such as Ernie Emerson, Paul Bos, Duane D., Jerry H., or any of the other Ranger friends I know are good people he is friends with. Well, he isn't guilty of anything other than having great taste in friends. Some of these good friends consider him a brother and they are not guilty of anything by assosciation. Good and decent people have members of their own families in prison. This doesn't make the whole family guilty of anything in my book. That is all I am saying. Well, that and that I don't like the flavor or this thread drifting off to drag other good names into this.

I'm going to edit and add this last comment and then I'm done with this thread.
Consider for a moment that two stand up guys can grow up together, go to the same schools, learn from the same teachers, the same coaches, graduate high school at the same time and go off to the same college and do it again. Consider that both learn and grow taking the same classes graduate and go into the same specialty of dentistry just to use as an example. Now ask yourself, is it possible that two stand up guys, with the same education and background even from the same town have a difference of opinion about how to see a good tooth vs a bad one or what the proper or best treatment is vs not? Of course the answer is obvious.

My point is that we have a clashing of heads here. No resolution is in sight. We differ in an opinion of a given topic. It does not mean someone on the opposite side of your view is no longer a stand up guy. Lifter is a stand up guy. Spark is a stand up guy and so am I but we all have slightly different takes on what is going on here.

Now. So what? Is the world any different? Lets get back to Spark the original topic of the thread.

Hey. Thanks for stepping up and explaining YOUR version of MY reality. It's stupid though and fraught with the typical assumptions I see so cavalierly thrown about here by people on a daily basis.

I am an administrator and/or moderator for no less than 3 knife related forums on the internet. In each and every instance, I do so on a VOLUNTEER basis. I don't make a single cent. I donate my time because I believe in the products, but more importantly, I believe in the knife world in general, and I am happy to help contribute positively to it wherever I can.

I also have volunteered MANY hours to the American Cancer Society, and Operation Gratitude. Does that make me in THEIR employ? I think NOT, and so would those organizations think NOT, as well as any attorney or tax man out there you want to ask.

For you to insinuate I would be out of a "job" if I accepted the behavior of people like you is hilarious at best.

You see, unlike Spark, I don't profit one wit for my participation in the forums. I was actually suprised when I read that he used to get paid $1500 per MONTH just to keep watch over this place. One would assume that now that his silent partner is gone, his profit margins on this place have increased considerably. Enough to pass out hundreds of dollars worth of free subscriptions to people if they'll "help him out". ;)

I don't need to be part of "a club". I don't need to be paid big bucks to participate in my passion, the knife industry.

As for the rest of your diatribe, have you missed the repeated posts in here from Mods and Admins about no cross-forum bashing? It's not that much of a conceptually complex request. Give it a try.

Michelle, I am intrigued as to where is your Avatar is from? Is it Balinese, or Indian?

Good eye! Yes, from India. Hindu goddess Kali... borne of the third eye of Durga when the S*** Hits The Fan. My primary martial art for years was Kali/Escrima/Arnis, so I like the symbolism. I also like what she represents as a Goddess as well. ;)
