Sparkling Smile is a big knife, or it could be....

Not to hijack the thread for education purposes, but what is a mono-scale and why would you think to do that with this type of blade?

I meant a single piece of something.
Often materials like G10, or Micarta comes from a supplier precut into rectangles. Approx. 1.5 x 6"

But a handle design like this might take something like 2.5 x 7.5" .....or something like that size? Obviously bigger though.
-so a sheet of material would need to be bought at the next bigger size. 12" x 12".
Now the maker sits on that extra material.
-good question. Sorry I didn't explain it clearly

That’s part of why natural wood is included in my base prices. I almost always have at least several species to choose from that I can make giant knife scales with. Especially now.

If you guys don't mind me grabbing steel from Canada and using a Canadian heat treater named Rob Ridley, then there is a good chance I can make a small run work. I can buy sheets that will fit three of these per sheet. If Curtis is willing to ship the steel to a waterjet, and they are willing to ship to Rob, and he is willing to receive from them and ship to me, then we could make this work.

I would need an order for at least three of these. There would also be space left on the sheet for three smaller knives. Currently Curtis has two appropriately sized sheets available, which means if we do a small run now, the maximum number of Sparkling Smiles I can make on it is six, and the minimum I would need ordered before the run happens is three.

John, I've missed making you stuff. 🎻

mono-scale handle. Which is great for strength

True. But making a bolster is also no problem. I have updated the design to accommodate additional securing of a bolster. I can do this with visible or invisible (i.e. internal) pins. That way if someone does opt for material one for a rear scale section, and a bolster, the bolster is secured by more than one attachment.

Any other steels in consideration? I don’t mean going up to MC or 3V, but lateral or slightly lower steel?

I'm trying to figure out what you mean by this lateral or lower thing. If you mean pricewise, to MagnaCut or 3V, frankly I don't see the point of using something more expensive than AEB-L, from a performance standpoint. AEB-L is literally the perfect stainless steel for this build, and one of the least expensive options, even next to basic carbon steels. And if it's something other than these 3 steels or 15N20 that you're asking about, there's also the getting new stencils made premium for each knife in the new alloy, not to mention the uncertainty of working with something new.

My suggestion guys, go with AEB-L and bask in its inexpensive perfection.

id be in for one.

I would do one later this year.

If it helps, I'm in for a clip point

This is a good start. Since I didn't mention it in the OP (I will edit it in momentarily though), I'd be taking a 30% deposit up front for the base price. Blade profile, grinds, handles and possible upgrades and their additional costs would be determined individually at some point before build time (but if you have something particular in mind best to hit me up by DM ASAP).

If that doesn't change your minds on this, then I will add you guys to a list of who to contact when I reach the as yet undetermined required number of orders to make the run happen.

What is the stainlessness of AEBL like in your experience David?

I havent found it very stainless from another maker. Speaking with a maker, he told me AEBL corrosion resistance lives or dies with its HT.
