You could slice a hooker in half with that bad boy.

ROFL DARK OPS ROFL ROFL. Please I must know did you get into Dark Ops since there knives deflect arterial spray or since the caoting makes the blade of your knife invisible to IR even though you stand out like a torch cave holding it.

#1 Busse/Swamp-Rat
#2 Strider
#3 Scrapyard
#4 Zero Tolerence

These knifes are all of the HIGHEST quality and are a perfect knife #'s 3 and 4 are lower in price by far from 1 and 2

I have a friend over in iraq as I right this and he carries a Masters Of Defense (MOD) Mark VI as a Fixed and the Mark1 as a folder. He said he has used both of his knifes for just about anything you can think of and there holding up great.he's been there over a year.

God Bless Them All Who Are Fighting For Us

By far the gayest otf i have ever seen.

Get yourself a strider, ranger, or busse.

yeah, that is pretty stupid looking. wow.

I like the deanimation aspect in the dark ops line of toolery but I am going to have to go with these choices...

On a budget:

Folder Spyderco Military

Fixed BK9

You can get both for under 200 bucks combined

Got dough to throw around on Hard Use Kuh nives

Strider is fine, as is Busse and Swamp Rat but I'll go in a different and less costly direction.

This knife is accompanying me on a boar hunting trip next weekend, so yes I trust them.
MMHW and Dervish

The early question is about what knives Special Forces soldiers carry. They are generally only issued the M9 bayonet but are allowed to carry about any "reasonable" knife that suits their needs. Swiss Army Knives, the range of multitools, and most good quality one hand opener folders are found amongst Special Forces soldiers. Those who choose to provide their own fixed blade make similar choices to other soldiers. Many of the better quality fixed blades mentioned here are found. My son-in-law's brother is a Captain in the 19th SF Group (actually on the Major's Promotion List). I gave him, and he took with him on his two tours (Afghanistan & Iraq) a Mad Dog Atak Hunter in a custom kydex sheath. It worked well for him. I also gave him my Benchmade AFO.

Id say one of the most tastefull of knives marketed as a "special forces" knife is.... now dont pass out....

Chris Reeve's Green Beret.

I'm not sure how it would handle the covert deanimation however.

(love his fixed blades but the sebenza...not for me)

I didnt read the advertisement until after i purchased the knife. lol but my 9/11 E&E is awesome. its held up to all ive thrown at it. do yall own a dark ops knife or are yall just rippin on it with out testin one. my friend has the strato fighter folder and it rocks as well.

The DOpps website has me laughing so hard. Even if it is a good knife, their marketing is goofier than Cold Steel.

The knife most equated with the actual Special Forces unit as said is the Chris Reeve Yarborough Knife, AKA the Green Beret Knife.

"As from August 23, 2002, a serialized version of the "Yarborough" knife will be presented to each graduate of the Special Forces Qualification Course."

For real well made fixed blade knives, I personally prefer the Chris Reeve Hollow Handled Fixed Blades...other top end performers are Strider, Busse, Swamp Rat, etc.

To make a casual observation, it would appear that knife fighting happens exclusively outside a bar and rarely on the battle field.

Or, locally, at the front door of the druggie who tried to pick up their girl.

There is a theme here - what do SF use, answered - whatever they feel like.

Is Dark Ops a ninja mall knife - yes, by ad copy alone - but users who have bought them have decently made, functional knives that satisfy them. Not imported junk - actual knives that work. It's been threaded before - stupid ad copy, good fit and finish overall.

Do military generally use extremely styled and hyped knives - usually not. BM, Spyderco, SAK, Leatherman, Gerber, Buck. Medium quality, relatively inexpensive in case of breakage or field loss, acceptable tool shed looks. It's what I've seen and done for years. It's the trademark of soldiers.

Only the inexperienced single males needing a testosterone fix buy the extreme hyper knives to actually "use." Once you re-up, reality sets in - you just need a decent tool. There is little to no knife training going in DOD except for a very few elite units - who bring in civilian instructors.

The average ground pounding grunt in the box would see the Spyderco Military as exotic enough for him - big step up from the Endura he carries - and he's got the knife as the team's share of his basic load.

The covert deanimators only sell to those who aren't.

yep. tirods right on. exactly.

Though that comment about 'they usually use whatever doesnt draw attention to themselves' is kinda off.. ok WAYYYYY off lol. Ill just tell ya like this. Appearance? trying to blend in? if you REALLY think about it, the only continents where light skinned people flourish, are europe and here. most hotspots on the planet, are made up of people with ethnic skin tones... if any 6' tall american, dressed in WHATEVER he wanted to, tried to blend in to the 'stan, iraq, iran, korea, china, haiti whatever, he'd stick out like a turd in a punchbowl, dark ops knife or not. thats when hes performing his main misssion.. i wont say it but, when hes in indigenous clothing, he's only semi blending in guys. its pretty obvious when theres a handful of taller, light skinned americans walkin around in the middle of some odd town, in afghanistan for instance.
as far as roaming around on post when not on a mission (yes, operational security must still be maintained on post, as there are TONS of tcn's [hired local workers] on base at any given time) they still stick out like a bulldogs bollocks. Here's eeevvvvery one else walkin to chow, 20 years old, matching dcu's on, matching kevlar helmets, matching load bearing vests, matching dcu boots, and M16A2's, walking to chow, in either tank crews, bradley crews, infantry fire team, or squad sized elements, and then here comes 6 or 12 guys, all about 30 and over, usually over 5'10", pretty stocky, with whatEVER type of haircut they feel like, big huge expensive watches on, M4A1's painted up, with all sorts of sights on em, every one being different, sleeves rolled up, patrol caps on instead of helmets, hands in the pocket, no unit patchs on, no rank, boots unbloused, and civilian hiking boots on walkin in the chow hall...
You aint foolin noone. Its pretty obvious who they are, and what theyre doing there. They usually dont blend in ANYwhere they go lol. What knife they choose is pretty darn irrelevant at that point. Just to let ya know.

But yea, most joes just carry whatever. some small stupid folder, or some of the more knife aware guys just carry a benchmade or something along those lines.. pretty typical. i just carried a glock cuz its really slim, and fits on my lbe easier. Other teammates carried a spec plus sp-15 l.s.a, and a spec plus marine combat. The rest of the guys just carried cheap little folders, nothing big. Most older joes have wives, kids and houses, and dont usually start blowin money on cool guy stuff in the px's like the younger single soldiers do in line units.

Interesting..

On the news a few nights ago they had a segment on the ‘shock knife’ www.shockknife.com Basically it’s a training knife where the edge gives you a painful electric shock so that it’s more realistic then a rubber training knife.

They interviewed the Winnipeg Police and they love the thing since with rubber knives during training, officers would tend to struggle more with the perpetrator and his knife rather than disengage and draw their sidearm. After introducing the shock knife to their training, officers disengage much quicker and avoid the struggle and risk of injury from a knife..

This news segment totally reminded me of that joke about bringing a knife to a gun fight.. And it also echos most of what I have read on this forum about knives and knife fighting from military personnel. Sounds like preparing yourself for a knife fight is not worth the time, or money and the Winnipeg Police certainly believe that a gun is more effective.

To make a casual observation, it would appear that knife fighting happens exclusively outside a bar and rarely on the battle field.

Apart form a bayonet here is the knife issued to Canadian Special Operators..
http://www.grohmannknives.com/pages/r3s.html A kitchen paring knife on steroids.

After looking at that knife it sort of reminded me one I had see issued to British S.A.S. back in the 80's. I had taken a few classes from Phil Singleton who was ex. S.A.S. and had been involved with Operation Nimrod. That was where the Iranian embassy had been taken over by Islamic terror group calling itself the, "Democratic Revolutionary movement for the Liberation of Aribistan". But I digress..

Anyway, Phil during a break was showing us some of the kit he was issued while with the 22nd. He pulled out the "tactical" knife that those on the CT team were issued. What he had in his hand was about as far from tactical(in the modern sense) as one could think. No bottle openers. No Klingon Battlecruiser edges. Nada. What he was issued looked like something you might see in any fishmarket. It was a 6 inch, thin profile, scalpel sharp, fillet blade. It's purpose was to cut through para cord, rope, clothing and most other materials as quickly as possible. No prying or hammering possible. Apparently, they had other tools to fullfill those mission requirments. Just thought someone might find it interesting.

I want to know where I can get some rad green smoke! Personally, for super extreme ops situations i carry what astronauts carry.....a claw hammer. Just make sure you are wearing an adult diaper when you use it because the end results could make you loose control of your bowels.
