Well, there was a thread about Grohmann's and someone asked if i could take some pics so here they are :D

15 minute walk from my place and i'm at the water. The day started cloudy but it cleared up in the afternoon so i grabbed a coffee and a knife to play with.

Here she is wearing pants made by On Scene Tactical and a Army Size firesteel loop on the side. The sheath is solid and the best part about it was that i didnt have to send the knife in because Eric owns the entire Grohmann collection.

Here are the different sizes of wood that i batoned through. The largest one at the end was used as a baton but the knife could have easily split it as well.

Piece number 1. A solid piece off a board that i found on the beach. The knife went in and out in 2 swings.

On to the next piece of wood.

I batoned this one half way in and split the rest by twisting the knife just to see how well it'd work. Needless to say, it worked just fine :)

This piece was just the last one i batoned.

The knife was still shaving sharp and i made a nice pile of fuzzies and stacked them up ready to light (although i couldnt actually light them because the area i was in has a bylaw stating no fires).

One last shot of the area from my car as i was leaving.

Looks like you had a great time. You often have to have a love hate relationship with those bylaws. On one hand I understand why they are there. To many people do not respect the power that fire has. But then there are those who, like you and myself as well as others, understand just how much power it has. It is these people that are hurt by these bylaws.

The bylaws were introduced after alot of people kept getting drunk on the beach and lighting bonfires. Alot of fights would break out as a result of the alcohol and testosterone and the city decided it'd be easier to just place a fireban then to actually deal with the situation.

Thus far it hasnt really fixed much except letting driftwood pile up on the beaches. The driftwood normally would get used up and burnt by people enjoying the beach responsibly but now its just getting gross. I go collect alot of my firewood from the beach to help clear it up.

I miss those days i used to sit on the beach as a kid and roast marshmellows and hotdogs with friends.

Thanks for the comment. :)

That is the same situation around here where I live. There are a lot of great parks in the area that don't allow fires because of this type of behavior. It is unfortunate that because of a few so many have to suffer. None the less we still visit these places because of their beauty and the enjoyment that we get out of being outside.

.

It was my #4 that Eric used to make your sheath.:D
I miss the blade but I got some great sheaths in trade for it, Eric makes some excellent stuff, neck rigs for my OHT and my farmer, and the F1 I owned at the time, it was a very generous trade.

Great pics btw, it's a really solid knife and it chops pretty well too for it's size and weight.

It definetly chops well. I love this knife to bits for camp kitchen duty. Because of the ergonomics of the knife as well as the blade shape it works great for almost every chore in the kitchen. I've butterflied chicken breast, chopped onions and use the blade as a rocker for dicing garlic.

You definetly need to get another one! :D

Yep, those places are still nice to visit. I just wish i could cook a few smokies while i was there :o

Good stuff - I sure as heck recognize that on-scene tactical sheath. I have 5 in for servicing by Eric right now!

Thanks for posting the pics...Looks like fun. I really need to get out for a walk.

Thanks Ken,

Eric's sheaths are top notch and the warranty is next to none.

Maybe you should take a walk....on over to bc? Maybe take up a professorship in Marine Biology at one of the schools here :D

cheers,

JC

Hey, I've been looking at those. Can you tell me what type of stainless steel it used? How's the rust resistance and it's edge holding capabilities?

I hear ya on the smokies:D

About a thirty min. drive from me is the approx. 25,000 acre Jim Edgar Panther Creek Park and it is one of the most beautiful places around. It has three lakes and I think three ponds and yet you are still only able to build a fire on the "designated" camping "spot". But none the less it is my favorite spot to go exploring.

The steel is listed on the website as high carbon stainless. It feels like somewhere between 440C and Aus6. The knife sharpens up real well and holds a great edge. It was still shaving sharp after the batoning and fuzzies.

It is fairly rust resistant. I've never carried it in the leather sheath for extended periods but having carried it in the kydex for weeks at a time i have not had any rust on it ever since i bought it. Although, i do what i do with all my knives and wipe them down at the end of the day.

The knife performs quite well overall.

Same here, the garabaldi mountain range is my favorite place to play but fires are only allowed in designated camp rings and when in the backcountry you're only allowed stoves. Hence why i carry my bushbuddy :)

Cool pics. Doesn't the Grohman look like a Nessmuk or is it just me? You got any shots of the back of your kydex? I'm gonna make one for my Koster and I'm looking for mounting and fire loop ideas.
