Nice knife, that design is starting to grow on me. Some really cool pictures too. I sometimes really miss living near the shore and hearing the sounds of the gulls.
yeah, i dont think i could ever live anywhere else unless it was next to the water. Not just the shore but its different in so many ways. The salty sea air, the way the place smells after a long rain fall. Theres just so many things
Plus its probably one of the best environments to survive in.![]()
Yep, there are several things I miss about the gulf. I miss all the seafood there for the catching, and coconuts there for the collecting the most I think. Seafood is so expensive up here....and no coconuts!
Yeah. I go and toss a couple crab gates in the water at dawn. Gates are usually loaded with chicken legs or fish heads. Then while i wait i toss in a fishing line and see what i can catch. End of the day i pull in the gates, take the crabs and fish home and stop by the shore on the way back to scavenge a few mussels and clams.
Overall a great day. Wish i was living on the island again lol.
Every time I see this knife, I wonder what's the deal with the tip? Is that a false edge? Is it sharpened or maybe instead rounded? I mean, if it's rounded, do you use it like a draw knife or for dicing stuff or something?
Do you actually use it for anything?
We used to catch a lot of crabs with just a turkey neck on some string and a dip net. We could fill a couple of five gallon buckets full of blue crabs in a fairly short time. I really miss all the crab boils!
For a few years my father was the care taker of Soldier Key ...south east of Key Biscayne, and that was awesome when I went to visit. It was so peaceful out there.
i'm guessing you're referring to the 1 inch of rounded spine near the tip? i have no idea if its used for a draw knife but i have used it many times for different applications. One of them being cracking open walnuts![]()
I can see that section of rounded spine at the tip being great for cooking duty. Seems it would be more comfortable using it for rocking for chopping up fresh herbs and small dicing of onions and shallots and such.
I would think it would be comfortable when using the tip with the blade in a pinch grip too. I guess it would also be a help when using the knife in draw cutting too.
I've been doing so well without buying any knives then this darn thread... My last #4 was a good knife, and I re-handled it with some whitetail shed, but gave it to a buddy since he didn't have any knives... Too nice for my own damn good!
Now I gotta start looking for one.![]()
Yep, the blade definetly works great as a rocker when chopping up herbs, especially chilantro which i love putting in everything lol.
I can definitely see that. Cilantro is the herb I had in mind when I wrote that actually. I like it in a lot of things myself, especially Pico DE Gallo, it just isn't right without fresh Cilantro.
