Spending the day with a Canadian: Grohmann #4 Review

Cool pics. Doesn't the Grohman look like a Nessmuk or is it just me? You got any shots of the back of your kydex? I'm gonna make one for my Koster and I'm looking for mounting and fire loop ideas.

Yep definetly looks a bit Nessmuk :).

If you're looking for ideas for kydex sheath stuff i'd suggest contacting eric at on scene tactical. With respect, I'm not quite sure if he'd like it if i posted his work methods on here without his permission. Sorry :o

I need a sheath like that for my No.4, Do you have their contact info? Thanks

Same here, the garabaldi mountain range is my favorite place to play but fires are only allowed in designated camp rings and when in the backcountry you're only allowed stoves. Hence why i carry my bushbuddy :)

It may seem out of place but I have to commend you for be as involved with a post as you have been with this one. There is nothing worse than putting in your two cents and it just gettting buried in all of the commotion.

Now that we have talked about lil' smokies I have a hunger for them....
way to go you are to blame for my hunger:D

lil' smokies? I usually bring huge double smoked ones stuffed with garlic and chedder :D I love the jumbo smokies you can buy that are stuffed with jalepenos and cheese. Dang, those suckers roasted over a fire are so good. I also like carrying gypsy salami in the woods for kabobs. Slice of salami, tomato, salami, tomato, etc :D

Thanks for the comments.

Never had those double smoked stuffed with garlic and cheddar:eek: You are killing me with all of these thoughts!

Calling in sick to spend a day in the woods with knives and smokies should be a no brainer. :)

I was supposed to be doing research today when i decided it'd be best to spend time outdoors with my grohmann #4 :D

Sounds like it was time well spent:D

Seeing those sick days on my pay stub is very tempting:D:D
Unfortunatly my better half would probably find something for me to do if I took off. One of the down sides to having a stay-at-home mother. But then again I would get to, more than likely, spend time with my son.

Tell the wife she needs a day off for her self. Tell her your taking the boy hiking for the day. She will support you in taking off the day of work. You get the day off, you get the play with knives, you get to eat smokies and best of all you get to hang out with your son.

Problem solved.

I think you may be a bad influence on me.:D
The sad part is I would have to take away a days worth of therapy from my lil' man. Still might have to take the day off.:p

One way or another there will be knives, smokies, and possibly beer. So its all good :p

Nice photos, jca21.

I really like the #4's, not so much because of the average materials used in its construction, but because it fits my XL-hand so well. I have one of the flat-ground carbon models and, one of the sabre-ground stainless versions with stabilized handle scales. My #4's have dissected everything from caribou to moose and, shaved feather sticks for the night fire and did the camp kitchen chores. Just real comfortable knives to use, IMO. They won't win a 'favorite steel' contest, but they do the job.

Thanks for the kind comments mate.

I've met a few people who use this knife exclusively for hunting. The belly on it apparently makes it a real good skinning knife.

I really gotta agree about the comfort part. I've used the knife for an hour straight with no hot spots. As for the steel? I can see where alot of people wouldnt like the steel but i think it does the job alright. If Grohmann ever decides to make the #4 in A2 tool steel with micarta handles i'd be all over that knife in a heart beat. Full flat ground in A2 with black micarta, white liners and a kydex sheath. The thing would be bomb proof!

:D
