spent the night in the ER

Ouch, I wish you quick healing. I think we all can commiserate with your accident.

All of us understand that "feeling" of doing something with a knife---we know we shouldn't be,either too fast, wrong hand position,etc--and then getting cut..

Hell--I know I have..

Heal up fast....

Dr.Bill

Thanks for the kind words guys...I keep reliving the stupidity of the moment...LOL the orst part is I have to wait a few days to finish my bow drill

That is a bummer but at least you knew how to handle the situation  and didn't forget to mention the dead turtle. Were you out in the woods?

Heal up quick my friend.

Like I always tell my son, if you handle a knife long enough it's not a matter of "if" you will cut yourself, but when. Happens to the best of us. Hope your feeling better and thumb will ok.

This is bad advice!! Me and my son shoot all the time. Can you imagine if I told him the same thing about guns!!! The idea is to drill the proper handling skills into the childs mind. Then he will not put himself in a position to screw up.

12 stitches, ouch. Isn't it nice that we have very few nerve endings in the tips of our fingers?

Last week I was wiping a knife clean and it sliced through the cloth into my finger. The burning sensation is intense. I really have to try to not do that again.
Hope it heals soon.

luckily I was home..It was a stupid mistake I was trying to rush the process...It won't happen again...I'm usually pretty careful, I'm fine, but goes to show it only takes 1 mistake to screw up bigtime..Luckily this was a small price to pay.

Ok here's my consolation story.

I had had a few beers and it was very late (2 am) and I was whittling some wood at home with my Barkie Aurora which I had just sharpened to an atom splitting level. I had this brilliant idea that since I'm a left handed it would be a good idea to also be able to use a knife with my right hand. So I'm whittling away, doing fine, actually getting comfortable using my right hand when my brain farts and I slice the index finger of my left hand very deep with a gash that was probably 5/8 inch long. It was bleeding pretty badly but not profusely, so rather than just keep pressure applied I focused more on determining the damage I had done. So I inspected the wound and it didn't appear that I had cut anything like a tendon but I just wasn't completely sure. I still had full movement of my finger but just couldn't decide what to do. The trauma from the injury was making me very uncertain and nervous. In between stopping the bleeding, I kept opening the wound to look around. The floor had a lot of blood on it by now. I got up thinking I would wake my wife to get a second opinion and slipped in the blood and wrenched my back trying not to fall. On my way to the bedroom I fainted, the first time this has ever happened to me, and fell to the floor slamming my elbow and hip against the floor and wall. I don't think I was out for more than a few seconds but when I finally came to and started to get up I ended up projectile vomiting against the door to a closet and then stumbled into the bathroom to vomit some more. After the vomiting I splinted my finger with a coat hanger to keep the wound closed and wrapped it tightly in bandages and laid down on the couch. The bleeding was under control and I decided to just wait until morning and make a determination then whether to go to the hospital. The next morning it was really a coin toss and I decided to just deal with it at home but I was in a fair amount of pain for several days between my cut finger, the multiple deep bruises from fainting, and my aching back.

Misery loves company, so I hope this story is of some consolation.

Nothing but a flesh wound baby...:o

 Wow dark ops knife advertisements are true after all.

but on a serious note is that a real injury of yours our did you just find a grusome pic to post here?

If its yours WOW that had to suck and how did that happen?

:( the last time i cut myself i decided i would try to open one of my knives by holding the blade and flinging it downward hoping inertia would cause the blade and handle to seperate opening the knife..... well lets just say my grip slip and now i have a cut on my leg.

Man,a minute ago,a mora slipped from my hand and man,i'm glad it hit the fingernail, otherwise it would be pretty painful :D

Get well,bro !

My last cut happened when I got my Vic Farmer. After hiking in a heavy thunderstorm (didn't see it coming ) I wanted to dry the SAK at home. I opened all the tools, and as you know, the can opener is hard to open when the bottleopener is already out, so I used more force and my index finger landed on the open main blade. Luckily the saw prevented a deep cut. This cut didn't bleed but it was extremely close. I was just happy that it didn't bleed and I learned more about my oldest enemy, the SAK. Felt gross though. Everytime I stretchet my finger out, I could feel how the cut spread open a bit. YAK!
