Spider Colony

That's something! We get tent caterpillar infestations in this area that look kind of like that...

I freaking hate spiders, but I bet that place is mosquito free!!!!!!!

Still nasty though

That's really strange. I'd think they would eat each other or run out of food before they get that plentyful.

I like spiders but that's too much. Very fascinating though.

i guess this just adds to the saying that everything is bigger in texas

o and this is really creepy

I am not afraid of spiders, but that sent a chill down my spine. Reminds me of the movie the Mist. Shelob and her momma Ungoliant must live there.

Oh, I'm sure that was happening. That is a lot of biomass packed in a small area. One wonders about the bioenergetic demands versus supply.
Quite interesting.

Why such hate towards spiders?.

I'll tell you why; they're fast, and they very quickly and stealthly escaped from hell. I like TX; but I'd nuke the whole state just to be sure I got them all.

This reminds me of something I've seen on a David Attenborough documentary.

IIRC, it's the work of a large colonly of very small spiders that cooperate to spin webs that cover a large area. Again IIRC they are typically found in tropical areas.

Maybe they have made their way to Texas?

Kind regards
Mick

no, they are everywhere in texas, this is nothing new. I was in Sam Houston National Forrest in June and it was like walking through grandma's attic, but 3 miles long... it is terrifically gorgeous, I have to say. Just real effin creepy.

+1!

Awesome. I remember seeing this when the story broke and wondering if that many spiders in such a small area would make a sound. Can you imagine hiking and listening to the gentle rustling of a million spiders? I think it would be cool. Unless you were a mosquito. Just a tad creepy, though.

All the best,

- Mike

OK, I'm officially creeped out. And I even think spiders are pretty cool.

I like spiders, I think they're cool. I don't think I'd want to be around that many- but that many spiders means there's a lot of stuff for them to be eating, which means they're doing God's work.

Spiders are like bats, snakes and owls- they're around to take out the trash. Helpful little buggers.

Hmm, Cool. About 3 or 4 yrs ago there was the same thing happening somewhere south of dallas I think. The linked article was from today so I guess this is a second comming?

Ahh, I see the original post date was in 07, so this is the same story
