Spine Whacks and Lock Strength

It always cracks me up when I read of people wanting a knife to get them through anything, especially in a s.h.t.f situation...
I know things can happen, but I have to think that probably 95% of these people will never venture more than 100 feet from a road, and camp in r.v's.

I would say more like 99% would be a better estimate. ;)

They can't due without their smart phones and texting etc for too long.... Not to mention public restrooms and showers....

Roughing it is a 5 min walk to the restroom..... And ten feet away from their car.... Well maybe 20 feet.... But yeah still within a very short walk to a road.....

I have no doubt 99% is more accurate. The other ones that crack me up are, the people that take their damn satellite dish with them.

There is a highway here in Oregon that I travel on a semi regular basis. Sections of it are very scenic, and run along a small river. On my way home the other day, there were two pickups parked in a very small wide spot, along the river, and they had a tent set up. The tent was no more than 20 feet from the damn highway.
Nothing better than laying in your tent, as cars and trucks whiz by at 60 m.p.h :D

Now that's funny. :D

NOW - that sounds like really roughing it! Maybe the Cops set up a radar camera inside the tent?

The simple fact is this: the Cold Steel triad lock is one of THE strongest locks I've ever used in a folding knife. I love how the haters want to somehow spin Cold Steel's spine whack test as somehow "a bad thing" ... to me, it's awesome to know that a folder can withstand abuse and stress. I know that I will probably never put that kind of stress or hard-use on my folding knives, but it's awesome to know that if I ever wanted to - my Cold Steel lockup would NOT fail.

I'll just say this - if I ever found the need to really thrash on a knife, I will always go for the Cold Steel folders every time. I simply would not trust any liner lock to survive the torture. Liner and frame locks are simply not adequate for hard use... I've just seen them fail time and time again (even some very expensive ones)

Not everyone who disagrees with you is a "hater."

I like the Tri-Ad lock (and the AXIS and compression), but I don't like spine whacking.
At least on MY knives...the rest of you can do whatever you want.

Personally I'd go for my Trail master or another heavy duty fixed blade.

Nice picture, or "avatar", whatever they call them. Where did you get it, if I may ask? (The "Gadsden Flag" spoof)
