With Negan keeping a strong advisory alive and dominating him is a show of power, and it reinforces to his existing men both his dominance and leadership. Furthermore, it strokes his ego, which appears to be quite massive based upon his speeches during the clubbing scenes. I too look forward to seeing him die because of who he is and what he stands for.

I of course realize it's only a show though, and I do think that Negan is a strong character and will bring a new and interesting dynamic to the show. I look forward to seeing how it plays out. My concern though is that the show will become less about the zombie apocalypse and more about the social dynamics within an oppressed society; not that that wouldn't make for a interesting watch, but I like zombies!

Exactly. What has rick done when put in similar scenarios? Remember the raid on the saviors? They just butchered negans people in their sleep. Thats about as dishonorable and vile as it gets. Then theres the other saviors that ricks group has killed.

Negan killed 2 in order to clear the board and subjugate Rick. Seems pretty fair to me. It seems pretty dang merciful when you consider what Rick would have done.

Someone mentioned about the show yurning from being about zombies. It never was about the zombies. It has always been about people.
 
I think part of the dynamic is how similar the two are. And I think the deaths are that "event" that makes Rick realize it. So maybe it will bring him back from the dark side and bring some humanity back to a world where people have descended to a animalistic state

As a big fan of the comics I was rather pleased with how it all went down. Everything up till now is child's play. If the producers do it right, the next couple seasons should be sweet!

im a comic fan too and i thought it was great i just wish they would let Negan curse more.
 
we can see brains smashed in but can't hear the F-word.... Negans hilarious and unconventional usage of that word in the comics was comedy gold! Not just the f-word, his dialogue in general was epic. In the comics he seems much more like a kid in a mans body. I doubt they will be able to translate that to the show very well. JDM is doing a great job, but theres only one Negan!
 
Seems to me the buildup all summer from the cliffhangar ended up in much of a let-down as far as the head-bashing went. The scene was well played by ... Jeffrey? ... though.

Question, though: in the comics, do they ever tell where Negan comes from? What his background is?

Someone with that level of knowledge in breaking people has to have had some background in the CIA or something! He took Rick right up to the edge, and made him willing to cut off his son's arm, then brought him back. In one night, he instilled Stockholm syndrome in Rick.

And he read Cor-al like a book. Future serial killer indeed. The look on Carl's face in the last few scenes reminded me of the youtube video of Amber Lamps. If Negan ever gets taken down, based on the characters' acting last night, I'd say it would be Carl or Maggie that does it.
 
I agree, the Comic book Negan is much better, love his profanity, but they will never allow that on AMC.....he's worse than Lewis Black in the comics.
 
Theres a subseries recently releases called "negan" or something like that, that gives a better idea of his background. I havent read it yet but I intend to soon.
 
Glenn's eye came out and he's gurgling/blubbering to Maggie and Negan goes:

"...I just cracked you so hard your g****mn eye popped out...and it's gross as s**t!!..."

best line from Negan so far!

could be wrong but I think I read somewhere Negan was a car salesman
