Thanks a million Chris (KFU), Ethan, Moose and all the testers for making this a great experience and fun for all. My upmost respect goes to all the makers along with my congradulations to our winners Dave and Matt. I knew Tacketts was gonna be hard to beat first time I layed eyes on it. It was a honor taking part in this.

Wow. Thanks everyone who participated in the challenge makers and testers alike. I was not expecting this outcome at all. And thanks to Moose for taking on all the work involved.

Congrats to Matt, and all the other makers, bummer that a few suffered too much damage to continue.

Thanks again to everyone involved, and again to Moose.

Im blown away! Congrats to you Dave! Im honored to have participated in this event. I learned a ton just by handling these finely crafted knives. Thanks to all the judges and fine folks i met over the weekend. I had a blast and I am ready to go back now! Thanks for taking the time Moose! And I hope the Colonel enjoys it, I think I had to ask him to show it to people as well!

Going through the initial thread/post for this (where everyone was signing up/posting pics pf their entries), there were soooo many great looking/well-designed knives.

I'll go out on a limb and bet that even those few blades that were somehow broken were anomaly's among the respective blademaker's.

Thank you all for contributing your time/money to showcase what's possible when skilled craftsman are put to the test!

wow!!!. wasn't expecting this...... congrats to all the winners!!! and much respect to all those that entered !!! but the biggest thanks has to go to all of those that had the grueling task of testing/judging, hats off to you, without you guys none of this would be possible...

I really didn't want to go off with some pansy story about how I made my knife in a couple days just to make it in time to enter, and start whining about how bad I screwed it up trying to rush it out, the mosaic wasn't intentional but in my haste drilled out the wrong hole for the lanyard, by chance it was a dead centered bridge hole for epoxy, so instead of not entering (cuz I'd have to scrap the handles) I just got creative with the pin.....:p end rant, I'm super stoked to have scored so high and to think I was embarrassed to send it out... :D Glad I did, I learned a lot not only from this whole experience but also learned its probably not a good idea to procrastinate when it comes to knife making....

I think when I get it back I'll tweak and thin the handle a bit, put a radius at the plunge (like it shoulda had)...

completely humbled guys and beside myself..

take care,
rob

Testing was a blast -- getting to use such a variety of knives and see the different construction styles was an education.
Even the knives that did not complete the testing were nice to use for the first 2 parts of the testing.

Congratulations to Dave and Matt! And a BIG THANK YOU to Moose, Ethan and everyone else who worked hard to put this show on. I appreciate it very much. And to the judges, thank you for taking the time to test these knives. Ya'll Rock! I can honestly say it was a huge honor to have my knife used and judged by you folks and have it on the same table as these other outstanding makers.

I said it in the other thread, I'll say it here. Anyone who handled my knife is free to post up their honest opinions on how the liked or disliked my knife (the 52100 knife with burlap handles that had the rippled blade failure). One of the biggest reasons I entered is to get honest feedback from folks like you. Thanks again! Look forward to the next ones!

I'm a fan of burlap mycarta, so it caught my eye early.
fit and finish was good, even grinds, nice and light with a good balance, big enough handle.
very sharp & slicey -- was using it to carve bamboo utensils Friday evening and it worked great.
would take translucent shavings.
because the edge was thin, I was careful not to use it to pry or wedge when cutting inside corners, but it did everything I asked it to.

Good feedback Vik! Im open to the same for anyone that used my knife. Im pretty sure my handle was a little large for most folks.

which made it perfect for me. :)
I'm pretty adaptable when it comes to knife handles, but there was one in the test that actually hurt to use for some of the tasks.

I'll be watching this thread.
Hurry up and write, Moose! Sleep is for sissies and peasants.

Congratulation to all who offered up a knife, for all to see and let the chips fall. Well done.
I was saving up for one of Dave's knives. I bet now I will have to save even longer.
