Spring 2015 Becker (East) Gathering - May 1-3 - Now With Pictures!

Dex,
That was world famous pork Roll, sometimes called Taylor Ham which is from the Philadelphia/Trenton area. The particular iteration brought was Jersey's best from Trenton, NJ.

Though we departed relatively early Sunday morning leaving enough bacon and eggs in various coolers to keep you guys in cholesterol for weeks, it paled by comparison to what we were provided with by the most generous others over the weekend.

Don't feel bad Dex. I missed the entire dinner Saturday. I had 4-5 of those bacon wrapped goodies though. Man those were good. That 15 has been in the shop all day getting some special treatment. Yes it's going to glow!! Trying a new idea with it that Todd's brass back gave me the idea for.

Thanks Salty! That stuff was amazing! I admit, I had more than a couple of pieces.

I also have a couple of pictures of you and your son, I will post them here or I can email them to you if you send me your email address. tate@coyleoutdoors.com

Glad you liked the Bacon Wraps. My team and myself made 98 of them. Guess next time we will try and make 300 - 500. Will need about 6 full backstraps thou. haha.

And I can't wait to see the 15! I am gonna order myself a new one to re-mod.

Are you going with the permeant scales?

Yup. Permanent scales. Got them on the table now with the liners drying. Not sure if I'm going to try and match them carefully to the handle or just bring them to match and hot vinegar to darken the spine after grinding. I kind of want to change the shape a bit so leaning towards grinding.

sounds good. Feel free to send it back to me to re-park as long as you aren't using wood scales. I should be able to dip it real quick without messing up anything.

It's going to have wood. Thank you for the offer though good sir. I really like that blade shape. I might have to grab another 15 to cut down. I already have the 15 that I was carrying at the gathering but I wouldn't want to chop that one. It's way too smexy.

Why all this talk with no pics? Hurry up!
Salty! Gah, ok, connected another face/name/screen name! It was great meeting you man! You've been posting and I thought I hadn't met Salty lol. Yeah, the ham roll was great! Score one for NJ

I think it's a rule that if you have pics from a Gathering, you are required to post them! If that's not a rule, it should be.

Y'know that last entire one you left behind for us Sunday morning? We hacked it up into chunks, wrapped 'em up and sent 'em home with various folks. I'm not sure exactly who got what (I snagged the last end, thanks!), but I assure you, it was much appreciated and none of it went to waste

I made sure Ethan got a chunk of your sausage, too! :D
SWMBO helped pull out the stitches tonight - one came out so easy, I did it myself!
3 were grown in, one of them pretty badly. :(
after they ere out, she had a stiff drink and demanded I cut up a pineapple for her.
(she's pure evil at times - but I kinda like that...)

I chopped up some of mine with onion and potato and made a delicious hash yesterday. Over the top. Thanks again.

See there, some good things actually do come from of New Jersey - my son and pork roll!:D

Glad you guys enjoyed it. The entire experience was a blast for us and whatever tokens of contribution we made paled by comparison to that which we received.

Very much looking forward to the next time we all gather.

AverageIowaGuy, you were asking me about glow handles at the gathering and we never got to finish the conversation. I posted pics of how I did the backstrap glow and if you wanted to do tritium I might have some ideas for that.

I "think" I know how I could do it without hurting the vile or any type of precision milling. Not sure though need some more time in the shop (garage). Summer school starts in the morning so won't be able to get to it for a bit.

One word: MoonGlow.

Several more words: it's sold as thin liner material, it really does glow a LOT after being exposed to light for a while (I mean, I could actually read a newspaper in an enclosed, completely dark stairwell, with that stuff as the only light source), it's pretty dang expensive, and it's kinda rare/hard to lay one's hands upon. But it definitely works.

As for the "natural" translucent "jade" G10... if you have some, keep it for your own projects or sell it at a premium. That stuff's not getting any cheaper or easier to find, either. :/

Love me some moonglow!!

The one vial I have left is about an inch and not sure of diameter. Rough guess is 1/8 in. ruler is out in the garage.

dremel?
or make a mold and cast a clear epoxy scale with the tritium vial in it?
