Spring 2015 Becker (East) Gathering - May 1-3 - Now With Pictures!

Patience is a virtue. I think at least one person who posts here got a video of it. It happened fast.

Yeah, I heard that, too. But... whether or not they decide to post it slap in right out on front of everybody, is a different question. *shrug*

The best part of that incident is when the little kid walked up to Eric and said "You'll be ok. See, I got a cut too."
That little guy had me cracking up more than once.

ponq, the Schlafly pale ale is quite nice. Thanks again.

Ponq, the Midnight Train is excellent. Thank you, sir! I'm enjoying it while going through pictures. Hopefully I'll be able to upload some tonight.

This gathering was the best....... It as the largest, I think, and it meshed beautifully..... I think Miss Kay(Momma Trade) counted thirty five souls plus kids....... I started the week with a bad back and considerable worries that I could pull it off but, I have no idea why I was concerned ..... Between Murph, Derek, Erik, GUYON and the Trades I could have spent the entire time napping or drunk in a corner and it still would have been a rousing success..... And it is not just the aforementioned ..... EVERYBODY just sees something that needs doing and does it........ This is the easiest group in the world to play host to....... I do hope everyone had as good a weekend as I did....... No contests this time to interfere with shop time ......... A lot of projects advanced, a lot of skills and info were passed....Thank you James, Erik Todd and Sam...... Randy and Momma Trade treated everyone for Saturday lunch, yum...... Dex cooked his tail off ....Octopus and boudin on Friday and some really nice little Axis deer and bacon wrapped jalapeños and boudin on Saturday .... Scrumptious they were.... I need to say a kind word too about the children who were there and the best way I can say what I want to say is that each and every one reflected well on their parents.........Some real solid future adults that I am glad to share the planet with...

I cannot emphasize enough what a pleasure it was to have you all share the nicest of weekends with me..... Thank You!!!!

Ethan

I am loving the pics.....

Hope vik's ok... he always struck me as not the type to get hurt.

Stuff just happens sometimes... I didn't see it happen, but from all accounts I heard, it was truly a freak accident. Not anybody's "fault".

Vik was immediately surrounded by caring friends (to the point that it kind of annoyed him :D). He was escorted to the ER by two concerned and qualified individuals to get stitches (that's how Beckerheads roll). I'm sure his hand is gonna be sore for a while, but he will be OK.

Lemme tell y'all somethin' about Vik's character... when he got back from the ER at way-dark-thirty, after getting hurt and sewn back together, he checked on my dumb snoring ass where I was sleeping near the firepit, to make sure I was warm enough and see if I needed my blanky.

Rawr!

great pix, Jerry!

who's the lucky dog with that M-9? I'd use that for everything outdoorsy.... and make up uses every minute.

And DH, thanks for puttin' on the show. Made my evening. :D

Where do I start? My wife and I had an absolute blast. The weather was gorgeous, the scenery was equally so and the company surpassed them both. It was great getting back to the ridge to catch up with old friends and meet new ones in the process.

It was great to get to see everybody. I'm not sure where to start here. Hawk590 & Tankerwolf, thanks for the trigger time! Now I'm hoping the G30SF or officer sized 1911 will be an easy sell to the little lady. :D Ponq & Gus, thanks for the beer. Dex, thanks for the boudin & bacon wrapped venison. So good... I'm also looking forward to putting my 17 through a good workout and Jesica is quite fond of her Candiru especially with those scales you were able to dig up. Trade & Kay, lunch was much appreciated and the pies were divine. Erik, the forging is always a blast! I'm looking forward to finishing the blank.

Todd, the Patrol Machax is seriously awesome. Thank you, sir!

I know I'm missing many other folks who stepped in to help out and pitch in to make sure the gathering goes smoothly.

Ethan, you know how to throw a hell of a party! Thank you so very much for your hospitality and kindness. Like I said, we had a great time and really enjoyed our stay up on the ridge. The food was most excellent. Thank you, sir!

Oh, and how about a shot of some of the additional steel I packed back home with me.

I bought the 17 from Dex along with a Candiru & scales for my wife. +1 Coyle Outdoors! Ethan, thanks for the 15! The Izula 2 was in trade from Vik. The low serial number is pretty cool. Thanks again! Last, but not least, the Patrol-Machax! Thanks, Todd! Derek - Thanks for the sheath, It was nice not to gore myself.

The knife blank that 1066Vik helped me out with hammering out, then he was able to rough grind it to shape. Thank you, Erik! I'm excited to finish it out.

My Wife's loot.

She really likes the 15. I'm glad I ended up with one of my own because I doubt I'll be able to get close to hers. The Candiru sporting kryptoglow scales was from Dex's box-o-tricks.

PM #2 got quite the workout this weekend.

Thanks! That is Erik's M-9. It is a fun one to use.

My goodness what a great weekend with family basically. Some of the finest people to walk the earth all gathered on one Mt. Well except for murph but he can't help it and we put up with him. This was my wife's first camping trip and despite the cold Friday night she said she would love to do it again. So far I have failed to get the bk15 from her she said it's hers Ethan gave it to her and she already painted the screws pink. So good to see the kids active and having a blast it was just awesome. Big thanks to all those who put so much work in to make this possible and a big thanks to Ethan for being the best host. PS. Ethan I left my toaster in your shop so it will just give me and gusty an excuse to head up and hangout.

despite mother nature's best efforts, I got home a few hours ago.
hand actually does not hurt today - except when I bump it.
sorry I didn't get any pictures.
had a blast, was great seeing old friends and making new ones.
thanks to Ethan and all who attended and provided their time, skills, food, nursing talents, conversations, enthusiasm, tree climbing demonstrations, humor, Oz, beer, etc...
if I left anything out, it's the fog of a 14 hour drive and Boudan withdrawal.

Sorry I didn't post up yesterday but the first day (and evening) back is typically a balancing act of re-entering the atmosphere without burning up the the heat shield tiles; yesterday was no exception.

This was the first Beckerhead Gathering for my son and I and we are still glowing from the experience. It must be mention first and foremost what a gracious and wonderful host Ethan was/is - befitting of the man himself. Someone once said that there are basically two types of people in this world: givers and takers; for our entire stay, from the moment of arrival to the last handshake of departure - Ethan never stopped giving!

Everyone there partook and contributed to the experience. Through the heat of the campfire and the warmth of fellowship molecules meshed, bonded and arranged themselves into a hearty steel. Perhaps a passion for knives, bushcraft, the outdoors, simply splendid weather and the great Tennessee landscape helped but Ethan and his band of Beckerheads made for a very enjoyable and memorable occasion. Joey and I want to say thank you to all.
