Spyderco 701 profile stones?

I would buy a couple of sets if they become available. By the time I discovered the set it was discontinued and unavailable. I have and use a set of the bench stones and would really like to have the profile set.

Let it go on record because I've been saying this for years>> with all the specialty type vocations out there i.e. dentists, machinists, watchmakers, jewelers and metalworkers of all types would literally buy these up fast if Spyderco could somehow tap their vast markets.

But having multiple grit selection would indeed be the key. Also consider that I personally encounter at least 4 to 6 people a week that I work with or encounter on my job that haven't even yet heard of Spyderco's great product line. So I'm fully confident that there is a vast market for these great tools. I believe that had more professionals in certain vocations had previously known about the 701 Profiles sales would have never been a problem.

I would be very happy if spyderco produced the 701 stones again. Would be amazing if the 701 profile stones could be retro-fitted into a sharpmaker. :)

Oh I've said it before that a base unit to hold the 701 Profile stones at a fixed angle(s) would be a really nice addition. I've heard that they are near to offering a base for the GOLDENSTONE sharpener and I'll sure get one of those as well.

Yeah I think the potential for the 701 Profiles would be huge with the addition of a base and offering them in more grit selections. As much as I like experimenting with my GOLDENSTONE I personally still prefer the 701 Profiles at this time. Both the GOLDENSTONE and 701 Profiles are great tools but I also believe that both of them can be improved on. very interesting thread ;)

I lost my set hunting around 15 years ago. By the time I looked into replacing them they were no where to be found.

I would love to replace them!

I am definitely buying a few sets. This is awesome.

Yeah I don't think these are isolated afi only people wanting to buy these great sharpening tools. I've just run into a lot of people who have offered to buy one or two of my sets at a relatively high price in the past two to three years.

Also a lot of newcomers to Spyderco and to Bladeforums as well have inquired with me as to where to obtain a set of 701 Profiles. I have a feeling that if Spyderco is going to make a limited amount of these 701 Profiles that they will sell out in fairly short order IMO.

It seems like Spyderco's product pipeline is really flowing well and I'm looking forward to all of their new sharpening tools.

This thread is so exciting it needs a bump. I know Sal mentioned CBN which is fantastic, but have we heard mention of an ultrafine?

Oh I'm telling you Landon I'm literally licking my chops knowing that there are going to be newer/better 701 Profiles on the horizon. I too very much want a 701 Profile in ULTRA-FINE.. I hope the GENERAlL (Sal Glesser) is listening in on this thread again because I truly believe if he knows how much many people want these 701 PRofiles to return to the main line up I do believe he will consider more grits like Ultra-Fine and maybe even one in diamond down the road.

With this growing "Prepper-Survivalist" community growing by leaps and bounds the market for manual/portable sharpening tools is also growing at an exponential rate as well. People are just now realizing how genius those 701 Profiles really are. I know I'll never get rid of any of mine. Except the ones I gave to Brother Donut who did me a great favor. But what are friends for

I still have, and use the 701 Profile stones that I bought back in 2007-2008. They are awesome. I'd love a new run of them as I'd buy a set for a friend and maybe also a backup set. ;) If anyone is interested, below is a link to the 701 Profile instructions that I scanned in years ago and made into a PDF.

Hey thanks for putting that up there David because it's actually getting hard to get any information on any of Spyderco's sharpening tools which baffles me. It's been at least 18 months or so that either Sal or one of the company people said that they are in the process of doing a comprehensive video on the use of some of these great sharpening tools.

Over the years I've found so many practical uses for the Spyderco 701 Profiles just experimenting on my own. Back in 09 I gave a set to a machinist friend of mine who just swears by them for deburring and other metal working jobs.
