Spyderco Advocate

View attachment 677793I just received my Spyderco Advocate and I am super pleased. I have the custom version that was nearly 3 times the price and I like the Advocate better. When I get some time I will take a side by side pic.

This is a model I would buy 2 of. (only other 2 fer's I have are ZT 0562, ZT 0801 Elmax and S110V GB 1 & 2 & ZT 0180)

Man, I guess I'm gonna have to get one of these. I love the looks of the custom, and the steel insert and additional opening option makes it too good to pass on. How does it flip, and is it easy to open via the Spydie hole?

I wish they had some patina to the handle and maybe a mosaic or custom pivot pin.

A dark stonewash on the handle or something.

Got mine yesterday. I know it's cliche but I think this is the one for me. Totally impressed based on first impressions. I've strayed from Spyderco over the past 3 years and have owned a lot of high dollar mid-techs. So for this knife has been the best bang for my buck. We'll see how it does over the holidays...

I kind of blew this design off when I saw it in the knife show videos, but in these pictures it looks better and I'm interested all of a sudden.

Saw a YT vid last night on it and it looks like a great flipper! Really nice looking too!

Got mine. Very nice knife. Couple of complaints. First. it's somewhat painful to disengage the lock - especially if you play with it. There's no chamfering on the lockbar and it's pointy. And it's strongly sprung. Other complaint is that it's not very smooth. Flips well nonetheless. There's friction from the bearings and from the ball detent. The bearing friction reminds me of what I experienced with the Mantra. Apparently the thin washers are easily dented by the small bearings upon assembly. Hopefully it will smooth out.

I just watched several youtube videos on the advocate and while I'm not yet sure if the knife is for me, I was blown away by the fit, finish and details of the knife. Spyderco didn't miss a trick on it, and I think it's one hell of a deal for what you are getting. Looks like a long-term winner.

I've just got to wonder... isn't it kind of expected that a Gayle Bradley collaboration will be somewhat difficult to unlock?

From what I have seen, ease of lock access has never been one of his design criteria.

I got one at GP today. I have been watching for them to become in stock. Great fit and finish. Yes the detent is strong. Yes it is super thin in your pocket. I swapped a casey lynch long clip and I am ready to declare it is about perfect.

Picture or didn't happen :P

I tried the short version first and it rested on the lock bar.https://drive.google.com/file/d/0By84_EmXV4LKelo1VGtUVDNpWUE/view?usp=drivesdk

Any updates?

Anyone open up an Advocate for Christmas? I'm still waiting for mine to arrive, would love to hear first impressions or short-term reviews!

I opened my Advocate this morning. Very pleased. Orange peel finish and and polished edges are very nice. Satisfyingly hand filling (XL gloves) for how thin and unobtrusive it is to carry. Forward finger choil looked dicey to me, but is comfy and secure. Digging the action, love the Spydie flick. Lock bar is definately not easy to disengage, I'd put it between the 1 and 2 in difficulty. Access to lockbar is good, but lots of tension and a bit of a hot spot where you push with your thumb.
