Spyderco Air

A clip would keep pocket lint, and grit out of the pivot area.A must have for me.....

I don't want a clip on a small knife, and always make sure that with a linerlock, there are no keys in my pocket. I had a linerlock open once when a key managed to push the blade open.
I'd prefer ZDP 189 or another quality stainless in a small pocket knife, but might consider this one. I'd like to see more smaller quality blades in sizes between the
Michael Walker (2.6") and Chaparral (2.8"), with comfortable, small handles.

I'd really like to be able to remove the clip on my Chaparral and still keep a tight bolt on the handle.

Nice looking knife, but the wrong handed lock and non-stainless blade are both deal breakers for me.

Ever consider putting a washer, or two short lengths of wire the same diameter as the wire in the clip, under the screw head?

If you remove the screw that holds the clip on the Chaparral, will the handles pivot and will this cause a problem while adding a washer?

If the female half is all the way in from the left, then nothing can pivot when you remove the male half of the screw assembly. If it's not all the way in, then the right scale can rotate. The liners are held in place by the blade pivot, lockbar pivot, and spring carrier/backpacer screws, so they can't moved even if the female screw came out far enough to all the way out. However, at that point the backspacer/spring carrier will pivot and be quite difficult to get back in place. But the female screw is under tension from the backspacer, so it won't just fall out on its own. Pictures of one with the scales off here.

yeah no clip is a bummer. I keep thinking about buying a kiwi, but the lack of a clip always helps me keep my wallet closed

It would be easier to lose a knife at small with a clip, you wouldn't even feel it as it fell out of your pocket. It's inconsequential really. Get a small pocket sheather made fom calf skin, problem solved.

Looks like an interesting gentlemen's knife. I don't think a clip would make much sense in this application, due to it being a gentlemen's knife which usually don't have clips and because it is so small. There is a reason most gentlemen knives don't have clips; many people find it plebeian when worn with dress pants or a suit. I think it also disrupts the elegance and flow of the knife, which is somewhat essential for it to be a gentlemen's knife.

I would be fine with no clips in any Spyderco knives. I almost never use them.

Paul - Thanks. When you refer to the right and left scale, which one would be up if the side without the clip is flat on a tabletop?
If you have the knife on a table with the clip side scale up - does the male screw face up?
Sorry everyone - I know this is a bit OT.

FYI people that don't like clips have the option to take them off...

It's a little more difficult for people that prefer clips to mount them on themselves.

A clip would not have hurt anything on this knife imo.

not exactly.

some people prefer a clip and not a calf skin pouch. rightfully so imo...

Luckily you've got a couple hundred spydies with clips to choose from.

People who ant a gentleman's spyderco without a bunch of holes drilled in both ends aren't so lucky, though.

If there was to be a clip and you took it off you are correct there would be holes. Since now many prefer tip up but many prefer down there would be 2 sets of holes. Than we have lefties and righties so 4 sets of holes. I think no clip was the right way to go for this elegant small Knife.
