Spyderco Air

If there was to be a clip and you took it off you are correct there would be holes. Since now many prefer tip up but many prefer down there would be 2 sets of holes. Than we have lefties and righties so 4 sets of holes. I think no clip was the right way to go for this elegant small Knife.

i should also mention that not every spyderco has 4 sets of holes and i doubt they would put 4 sets on a gentleman's knife. it's a cool knife regardless..

If the knife came with a clip, then it could be removed. If people don't want holes in the scales, they can get new scales made just as easily as someone can send off a clipless Air to have a custom clip or calf-skin pouch made. Everyone is happy when it's the other guy who has to compromise.

I am in love with this model. Ever since I started working in an office, no knife I carry is above 3 inches in blade length. I have wanted to try M4 but it usually is used in much larger folders. This looks like a perfect little knife I can drop into my slacks. I never use the pocket clip on my office knives so I dont' mind the absence of a clip.

As long as the blade stock is 2.5 mm and below, it will be a must buy.

You can never please everyone. However in this case, people who want clips have 99.99% of Spyderco's folder inventory to look for a knife they want with a clip. Sticking with clipless is absolutely the right choice. Anything otherwise would have cheapened the design of the knife.

I have trouble viewing the design of clipped knives by Darrel Ralph, Michael Walker, Allen Elishewitz, Rick Hinderer, Chris Reeve, William Henry, Rockstead, or pretty much any other as 'cheapened' by a pocket clip. A clip can fit in with the lines of a knife without issue.

not if it were a wire clip...
In which case there would be two pairs of even uglier and harder to camouflage gouges on each side of the handle. That may be a non-issue on a tactical folder, but it can spoil the looks of a more refined looking knife.

Only Spyderco that even came close to that ideal was the C27 Jess Horn, and even it would have looked even better without the clip.

I got my pre-order in. I'm a sucker for gentleman's folders - and this is an incredibly classy one. I'm also going to let the blade patina naturally. Every time I see a good patina on a gentleman's folder, it reminds me of my Grandad and his pocketknife.
