Sorry no pics but I got to fondle the proto Sal had at the OKCA knife show in Eugene this weekend...........It is a real winner!!!!!! Great looking scandi grinds and the handles looked amazing in spalted maple :) The handle contours feel really nice too. Even without a guard, I dought many are going to feel any insecurities about using one. No ETA to announce but when they arrive, I want 1 bad!!!! :D

I've been wondering about those! Wish they had a tentative timeline. How did it feel in the hand compared to something common like a mora?

I wish I had a pic of it in hand but it is so far above a standard Mora you wouldn't believe it! It simple fits my paw as though I had shaped it for myself.

Found this on a google search. This the one?

Yup! That's the one! MSRP is $300 so effective pricing should be around the $200 mark.

Man those look bloody darn handsome, even at the price point, I'd probably pick some up.
I wonder if they come in other handles.
People should use scandinavian grinds more, especially on bushcraft knives IMO.

Is there a practical reason for the hole? It seems like a stupid addition to me. The rest of the knife looks great, though.

There was some sort of plausible reason for it being there...I just can't remember for the life of me what it was. I'm sure the fellow who mentioned it in the first place will be along shortly to inform us all.

Yes - but as I asked in my PM to you. WHEN IS IT BEING RELEASED?!?!! ;)

TF

If I knew that, I'd tell you. Promise.

I'm sorry, we're picky and even if it makes a model late, we won't release something just for the sake of releasing it. We're finishing up some details on the sheath (I know, I owe you pictures of that too - I haven't forgotten).

I promise, I'll post as soon as I can (in both threads). ;)

In that case what about making the ricasso area a little smaller so the edge comes closer to the blade??

The ricasso is sort of big in the pics I have seen and you can get a lot of leverage cutting if you bring the edge closer to the handle:thumbup:

I've owned probably a couple dozen or more Spyderco knifes (including G-10 Manix, Paramil, etc.), and the quality has always been top notch. I still have a mini dyad, an Endura, a Kopa, a Delica, and probably others I can't remember at the moment.

With all due respect, though, $200 for a knife that's basically a Mora, which
you can get for $10-$20? Mors Kochanski can't be all wrong. The Mora I
have does not hold the edge as long as a Spydie, but it's EASY to sharpen in about 30 seconds.

I can use, abuse, and lose ten Moras for the price of one of these. Despite
the quality of a Spyderco, these things are getting too expensive for my
wallet. In this economy, I think I'm more likely to buy a Byrd than a Spydie.
Yes, that's the other one I have - a Byrd dyad, which wasn't expensive, and works great when I carry and use it.

Absolutely no insult intended - but I can't afford a Mercedes, so I drive an old
pickup. Just how it is...sorry, Sal !!

OK - fire away at me...

I guess my main question, after reading the other thread, is why you didnt come here and get some opinions? You have a forum at BFC. We have a W&SS forum at BFC. Yet, you went to BushcraftUK for ideas and opinions? Are they the target market you're shooting for? Also, and I'm not trying to be an ass or anything, but how exactly did Chris Claycomb "design" that knife? It looks just like all the other bushcrafter knives that are on the market, to my eyes. Koster, Muskrat Man, etc. all make that design, and have made it for a while. He may have tweaked the idea here and there (it's hard to tell exactly how just from pictures), but... no need to re-invent the wheel, so to speak.

I got to handle it as well, at bladeshow. It was an awesome knife.

Wow....Lee...bring it down a notch...Bushcrafting is such a ( pinky in the air ) English thing it just makes sense to search out someone there..Chris Claycomb is no slouch either...yes we have many great makers here Dan,Kaleb - heck I own their knives...Bill from a couple of posts earlier has a number of bushcraft styles himself ( Bill very nice as a matter of fact ) even he things the style is great. I also had a chance this weekend to handle it...truly it is comfortable, the style is just different enough to make it unique in the world of bushcraft knives.
Now if it was a hard use, utility or hunting knife damn right I'd expect them to seek out opinions here...heck maybe even go to N.C. home of some of the finest makers around.

Edb....no worries.... different strokes.....get it different strokes...strokes to sharpen a blade...forget it never mind.
