Spyderco Bushcraft knife

They are not calling the knife a "tactical bushcrafter".

Chris Claycomb is a Tactical Bushcrafter. (I don't know what that means either.)

Tactical bushcrafter ???????

Never heard this one before.

Anyone want to educate me about what this is?

Kind regards
Mick

From the other thread, so y'all know how we have to practice our skills in England:

Tactical Bushcrafter = someone who must practice bushcraft clandestinely, silently, secretly...and leave no trace.

The normal state of affairs in England where wild camping is mostly illegal, there's no public land, and all sharp shiny things are frowned on!

Okay, actually, I don't know what one is either :D. Perhaps I am to blame with my choice of thread title here?:o http://www.bushcraftuk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=18377
Oh well :D

I own 85 acres but I'm SO glad we have a lot of public lands in the US that don't have a lot of regulations.

While this looks to be a very nice knife. I can buy 2 great customs for the same price most any week on the sales thread.

"Tactical Bushcrafter" could be translated into SERE knife-A knife for escape and evasion, that can be used both for self defense, combat utility and field use. It's a viable concept, but for Air Crew and Special Ops-kind of a limited target. If it comes with a kydex sheath they are screwing themselves though, because in an E*E situation kydex is about the nosiest material you can carry.

I thought the term "tactical" appealed to those who don't actually use knives. And that "bushcrafter" to those that do...

Customs with a full scandi grinds, 01 steel, full tang handles? Please tell me where.

And these, while really nice, don't count. :p http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=664768

I can. It's called the Fiddleback Bushcrafter. There's a dozen other makers on here that all produce 150 dollar range bushcrafter knives in high end steels. I just nabbed a Koyote Leuku in 15N20 for 135 with a beautiful leather sheath. I also ordered a RAT RC5 for 106 dollars, its on the way. I got two very high end, high quality field use knives for less than the MSRP of this one. Just a thought.

I think that the demand for a Scandi Bushcrafter will probably have been fulfilled for the most part by the time Spyderco bring out this knife. Certainly those over here who are interested in Bushcraft have had ample time to get a knife from one of our custom makers and there are many.

I have a Ray Mears/Alan Wood Woodlore and also a bushcrafter by Mick Wardell...and there must be at least another 5 makers providing them...and in many ways the demand for these is linked to Ray and his TV programmes...but he has now recently taken to using a folder...and in all liklihood the use and demand for a Bushcrafter Scandi knife may well diminish if people follow his lead.

Maybe Spyderco could look at a Scandi folder? Now that might be an interesting prospect.....

But in today's economy they need to make any knife in the US...people are much more conscious of "home country" loyalty if there is an option just as good at home....and I agree that the price is high for a Taiwan product...really don't understand why they went down that route??? I only buy abroad if the knife/steel is unique and unavailable from a UK maker...Busse has had a lot of my cash and a few custom makers using high end steels in Japan...and I suppose the Swiss with their SAK's...now that is a good example...if the Swiss can afford to make their SAK's at home and sell them for a good price...given their very expensive economy....surely the big US companies could do the same?

Indications are the Spyderco bushcrafter will be out in or around September.
