Sorry, I've been a little buried with Military stuff, so I couldn't make it here sooner. It's still coming, no need for concern. We have this little habit of not releasing something until it is absolutely ready to go.

I'm sorry for the delay, but we'd rather be late and get it correct than rush it. Some of the delay, to be honest, is just the sheer number of designs we're working on right now. You can blame me for some of that, some of those "designs" are for the Military.

I'll check with Sal and see if I can sneak a few pictures with the sheath. That might help tide you over. ;)

Oh yes, pics please <G>. And thank you, Spyderco, for developing this. I'll be purchasing one (or two, or three...) for absolutely sure.

I really can't wait for this knife to come out. Joyce knows it! I got to play with one at shot and blade, it is as good as it looks.

O1? A nonstainless steel Spyderco?

Does this mean we can have a 1095/52100 Military? :D

Lucky! When I dropped by the booth at SHOT Sal had left the proto at the hotel. It was the piece I was most looking forward to seeing, too. :(

At least he was kind enough to personally show off a lot of the other protos on display. Great guy.

Wow. Never heard of a "tactical bushcrafter".
For $299.00 I can buy several excellent customs.
Not saying it's not a good knife, it's just not for me.

There's a big difference between a MSRP of $299 and an actual retail price.

I think I'll pass on a $200-230 factory production bushcraft knife when I can get a custom made with the steel, grind and scale material I want for considerably less. B.G. Andrews comes to mind, but only because i have one of his. There are any number of very good knife makers out there who could make a bushcrafter that is probably better quality for less money. I think I'll support the little guy on this one.--KV

I was hoping for synthetic handle material and japanese steel :(
I also know why the hole is there, I just don't understand it...

"Tactical bushcrafter", saw that too. I guess it pretty much covers all the bases, but sounds like an oxymoron to me, or a cold steel ad.

The hole doesn't bother me at all, it's trademark, doesn't interfere with the operation of the knife, and actually makes it lighter. It could be used to scrape fine fuzz for firemaking or smoothing and straightening arrow shafts.

Yup, Im guessing retail for about 200-230 or less. Still, I think I'd rather have a custom.

FWIW I have found Spyderco's F&F (on fixed blades) impeccable, and I'm picky. The Temp 2 I handled and the serveral Hossom knives I've owned all were far above par for a "production" company, and better then several custom knives I've had.

Production knives are available now, what's that wait time on a nice custom?

Good point to start at the other thread: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=6446599&postcount=163

You have to understand, it was kinda pointed at the market that was buying the Wilkinson Ray Mears knife, thus British designer, 01, and wood. And by that standard the price is pretty fair.

Which leads me to that answer to your question, if the first one goes well, they have plans to do a higher end one with carbon fiber handles, and a super steel like S90V, but now Spyderco is talking about sourcing Hitachi Super Blue, so, who knows, maybe it will make it's way into the second Spyderco Bushcraft.

Another way of understanding the hole is that it makes a fine forward lanyard hole.
