Spyderco Fakes & Knock Offs Info

The description as far as I read it is not what the seller did to the knife it's the refinements between the original paramilitary model and the paramilitary 2.

Here is a new one on me:

This Ebay listing http://www.ebay.com/itm/Spyderco-Paramilitary-2-Custom-Camo-Black-Blade-With-Titanium-Low-Profile-Clip-/301079430864?pt=Collectible_Knives&hash=item4619bb86d0

Seller is asking $299.00 - it's a regular Camo G10 / Black Blade PM2, but it does have a low ride clip.

The seller claims that there are multiple alterations including thinner blade profile, additional jimping, custom bearing system, the tip is longer - here is his description.

The problem is that the coating is still pristine over the entire blade - several of the listed modifications would require removing the DLC finish. The seller is basically getting 3x the selling price for a regular PM2.

Here is what really bothers me; I tried reporting it, but Ebay doesn't offer an appropriate category for the deceitful activity the seller is involved in. I reported him anyway, but the infraction I chose did not leave an option for leaving a note (I think it was fraudulent description or something), and when they see that he's not listing the type of fraudulent information they are looking for (the actual item description wasn't even part of the consideration for the given infraction), they'll pass on it and the seller will be able to keep listing a regular PM2 until eventually some noob that has never seen a Camo PM2 w/ G10 blade might bite.

Also, I visited a physical knife store last weekend. I spoke with the cashier about Fake Spydercos, and he told me a few stories. He said that one of their employees bought a fake Spyderco at a gun show and didn't find out until he came back to the store and the store owner looked at it. They scanned the box, and their system actually read the fake box like it was a legitimate Spyderco. It is almost getting to the point where Spyderco will have to put RF chips in the knives, or just make the fake company a partner.

Those improvements that are mentioned are the improvements from the regular Paramilitary. The seller seems to have copied Spyderco's description of the PM2 and the improvements they made on the Paramilitary. Other than that, I don't see anything wrong(besides the ridiculous price).

Yeah, I think it's straight from the Spyderco marketing - but the description is misleading. It starts out with stuff like:

"Professionally and custom assembled!" He calls it a custom Paramilitary 2 in the title. Everyone here should be able to look at the knife and tell it's a regular PM2 with an aftermarket clip, so we'd all agree that it would be worth about 150$-170$.

He then copied the Spyderco boilerplate that has wording such as "We kept the same high performance Steel" "We lengthened the blade" like it's something they did at their custom shop. Paired with the pricing, it's a seriously misleading listing. It also offers a unique problem - cons are getting more savvy in their scams. Ultimately they're out to scam a profit - and it doesn't matter to them if it's by selling counterfits or by getting an astronomical markup on a legitimate item. In this case you could say they are doing nothing wrong (it would be hard to make a case against them since every piece of information by itself is legitimate). Just like an average buyer wouldn't be able to discern a well made fake, I don't think an average buyer would be able to isolate the pertinent information from Spyderco's own literature, and would take all the information as justification for the inflated price.

Why is the Spin copied so much? I could be wrong, but it doesn't seem like it was ever a super popular model, but fakes are all over the place. Seems odd.

A general question about this thread. Am I allowed to post links to active ebay auctions that are obvious fakes which I also take the time to report to ebay? I have done it a couple times before like a lot of other posts warning members of the counterfeits out there, but if that is against the rules I will no longer do it. Edit: just read the original post on this thread, it is against the rules and will no longer do it.

I don't know about the rules, but do at least mention the seller name so we know who to avoid even when the auction page is gone.

Are you sure that is not just a customized Domino? The laynard tube is missing, and that is a common thing for anyone modifying/changing scales leaves out upon re-assembly. The only thing that looks real sketchy is the lack of torx screw on the locking side of the pivot.

100% fake. those pictures are straight off the most common knockoff site. there are several available at varying prices from 20-30 dollars.

theres a couple listed. some say 440 some say cts xhp

Must be new ones, I also noticed after I posted the lock bar has a hole in it. The real one does not.

There are Dragonfly's as well. Haven't seen them.

at 22 dollars i might order one to disassemble and take some pics. however i dont have a real one to take comparisons like i did with the PM2

I have to say the obvious. If you buy one you are supporting those who make and sell the fakes.

Sogflash I understand that. But I feel like I've done more help than bad with my fake pm2 as people reverence my video comparison highlighting the differencesand I'm not the type to try to pass it off as the real thing. They're going to be bought regardless. Might as well help identify the differences for other buyers

I got taken. :grumpy:

I ordered this Spin off of the Auction site and just received it.

As you can see, that's a real Spin in the auction listing. Nice crisp etch and torx screw construction.
This is what I got.

Cheap looking and hex screws. The logo is stained and the blade looks like crap.

I filed my complaints through the site and sent him a message that I will post this egregious miscalculation of whom he is messing with on every forum I belong. :thumbdn:
Not sure why you didn't leave him a negative feedback, help others from following your footsteps, but you still have time. I think you have 90 days. I read his mail to Philllll and the guy is a 1st class scumbag. I took it upon myself to 'poke the bear' so to speak and message him on a couple items, asking which things he's selling a knockoff from china and which ones weren't. Should have some funny replies.

Phillll sent me all of the correspondence from the guy and it was whacked out. Just got my money back and called it a day. I know I should mess up his feedback but I know it would just bite me in the butt. I've got too many knives to sell and been out of work for too long to burn that bridge.
