Spyderco Fakes & Knock Offs Info

Did I get a fake Starmate?

My concerns are the uneven grind, the odd unfinished spot on the ricasso/choil and the fact that the lock side seems (to my eyes) to be bowed out when it's locked.

Theres been no confirmed fakes of the Starmate yet, at least to my knowledge. Pretty safe to say its genuine.

I have a pm2 on the way and only recently found out about the fake "epidimic" if you will(this is my first spyderco and previously I hadn't paid them any attention) So of course this has gotten me all paranoid, however I did find out that the company is registered here. Now my only concern is that the company is only a couple years old, and doesn't seem to have much of a reputation. Should I have anything to worry about if the company is registered with b/f?

What store is it? It completely depends on what store. If you give a name, I can help.

Thanks I just got home and there it was. I literally just opened the box, and i must say, I'm impressed. I can't say I was'nt worried there for a second.

Plain black with the uncoated blade. I wanted to keep it as simple as possible since it's my first spydie. This way I cant blame the color scheme if I don't like it. I swear I'm gonna learn how to post pictures one of these days(as if yall haven't seen this blade a million times already)

I noticed that my clip screws had what seemed to be blue loc tight on them. Is this standard practice for spyderco. If so, have the fakes caught on to that yet?

Yes loc tight is standard. Is the jimping on the thumb ramp angled towards your thumb? And try uploading pics to imgur or Photobucket. They work best for this forum in my experience.

Thanks and I do. The cosmetics are growing on me and the light weight is something ill have to get used to. I like a nice hefty knife. I'm just really glad I didn't go for the military. This knife has plenty of blade and then some.

I agree. The value on this is amazing. Maybe you should try a Manix 2 in S110V next? Only 2.9 ounces.
