Spyderco is dead in Canada

Not crossing my fingers that it will ever happen, but if it does then it should be on the West Coast, just because, and we can make an inaugeral limited Vancouver edition with Hemp-G10 scales ;)

Seriously though, it must be significantly cheaper to set up shop in Canada vs. UK.

Probably even cheaper than in many US states. Hmmm

Do you have any idea how much it would cost to set up a modern shop in Canada?

It would be a lot of maple sugar, that’s for sure.

Don’t worry, we’ll figure our crap out.

Also, our expertise is too spread out. Hemp scales from the west coast, machining in Ontario, and metallurgy r&d in Newfoundland. Shipping would kill it. :)

Probably a lot of $ indeed, but we need knives up here. I just got two PM2's to give my kids when they're old enough incase supply dries up entirely. Not that I'm opposed to smuggling them in.

I don't think anyone would expect you to set it up all out of your own pocket. I'm sure it could be done if the demand was high enough and appropriate partners could be sourced. Think of the children :)

A fair bit to be sure.
However, federal, provincial and even municipal governments have tax incentives and such for companies setting up new operations.

And Windsor has the lowest property prices of any sizable Canadian city right now. ;)
AND, a number of our tool & die folks and mouldmakers already make knives, mostly as a hobby but some sell their wares. The heat treating company I get my knives heat treated at has certainly had enough knives roll through there.

Not that it would be cheap or easy to set up an operation here, but it is somewhat feasible.

How about raise the MAP another 5% in the US and lower MSRP/MAP for Canada?

I mean, we're a bottomless put of money to milk here in the states right?

There is a knife store in Ottawa that I have spent a fortune at over the last year. Unfortunately, Spyderco wasn't a brand that they carried (I was told that they carried them in the past but stopped for some reason) so I had to order online.

Now however, my knife store has started carrying Spyderco, so that is a good sign.

How about just setting up an assembly plant and shipping individual cases of scales, liners, blades, hardware, etc. or even an assembled handle and separate blades.

Good news!

Oh god. I just recently got into Spyderco and am HOOKED. Despite the outrageous prices in Canada, I bought the Sage 5 and immediately purchased 4 other spydercos within a few weeks time.

I'm super interested in multiple 2018 releases as they have some really exciting stuff coming out.

I hope there will still be a way to get compression lock Spydercos to this side. Really sad news.

New batch of spidies made the trip to a Canadian dealer near you.

it is a shame when governments start seeing its citizens as threats to society. Who is the real threat? Definitely not the people. What they do in one western world country, they will do in all. The real threat to society is its citizens being disarmed. Just plain awful. People are not buying spyderco knives to go out onto streets to murder, rape and pillage. Lets by all means keep punishing law abiding citizens for the crimes of the 0.01%

Just checked. You are correct. Nice!!

I'm hoping we get the Mantra 3! That's what I'm after the most!
Keep an eye on their site and watch for the preorder. They tend to pre-sell a lot of the popular stuff; the Smock was all spoken for in hours after going up.

I talked with someone who owned a knife store and they said they had no issues with the current CBSA debacle. They also said that the talk on "the forums" made it seem like the situation was far worse than what they and other buyers were experiencing. I can't vouch for this, but it was interesting to hear and I recently had a shipment from the U.S. that went through with no problems. This isn't to say everything is fine, because the CBSA made changes and they can choose to become strict about enforcement whenever they feel like it.

But yes, a store in Ottawa started carrying Spyderco, which was nice to see. I'm sure they will sell out and hopefully their stock expands soon.
